Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Gets Devblog Exploring the Story and Design of Sophia

Asobo Studio has shared an update on their upcoming game, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. A new developer blog post on the studio’s website, called “Sophia’s Story,” reveals the progress they’ve made. According to the post, the game is nearly finished and the team is currently focused on testing, balancing, and polishing the gameplay.

Sophia, the main character from A Plague Tale: Requiem, is a strong and independent young woman shaped by a difficult past. The next story begins right after she leaves her mentor and will explore her life growing up and becoming an adult, focusing heavily on the mysteries of her childhood.

The story will focus on Sophia at age 22, placing the events of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy about fifteen years prior to the other games in the series.

According to lead writer Cara, Sophia grew up in a harsh and violent place, forcing her to learn to fight at a young age. Understanding her difficult background helps players understand why she has such a strong fighting spirit, and it also makes her journey for freedom in the game more meaningful.

Cara, discussing the process of writing the character Sophia, explained that the creative team focused on themes of abandonment, grief, and instability to reflect her age and the harsh world she lives in. She also appreciated that Sophia’s backstory hadn’t been fully explored before, which allowed the writers a lot of creative freedom.

According to Adonia, a lead character modeler, Sophia’s new outfit in the game is a balance between her fun-loving personality and the more serious themes of her updated look. The design combines elements like her flowing hair and playful accessories with tougher details like worn leather and ripped clothing.

As a huge fan, I was so excited to hear about all the detail that went into Sophia’s design! Apparently, the team really focused on things like necklaces, beads, and scarves – anything visually interesting – to create her unique look. And it wasn’t just about how she looked standing still, either. They even used her coat to add more realistic movement to her animations. They split the bottom part into strips like a gladiator’s outfit, which made things like crouching, fighting, and climbing look so much more fluid and cool!

We’re planning to release more devblogs soon. The next one will include an interview with Anna Demetriou, and the one after that is titled, intriguingly, “Into the Myth.”

I’m so excited for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy! It’s coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S later this year, and the best part? It’ll be available on Game Pass right away! If you want to see what it’s all about, definitely check out the official reveal trailer. And if you haven’t played it yet, I highly recommend reading our review of the last game, A Plague Tale: Requiem – it’s fantastic!
