Return to Paradise stars reveal how season 2 will pick up following romantic cliffhanger

Season two of Return to Paradise is coming soon, continuing the story right after the first season ended. Mackenzie, played by Anna Samson, is still processing the surprising confession of love from her ex, Glenn (Tai Hara).

He unexpectedly confessed his feelings while talking to Frankie the dog, not realizing Mackenzie was nearby and could overhear. He was engaged to Daisy (Andrea Demetriades) at the time.

Samson believes she might have had an idea what was happening, but actually hearing it was much more impactful. Once you’ve heard something like that, it’s impossible to pretend it didn’t happen. However, he’s unaware that she’s already heard the news.

At the start of the second season, she’s facing a tough choice. She can pretend what happened with him never occurred, though she’ll always be aware of it. The question is whether she’ll acknowledge it, and how that will change their relationship. She still clearly feels guilty about leaving him at the altar years ago, and that guilt continues to drive her actions.

Her actions really haunt her, and the pain she inflicted on him heavily influences how she acts, especially when she’s around him. Mackenzie isn’t concerned with being popular, but deep down – like most people – she truly desires to be loved.

It’s a complicated situation because the person who loves her the most deeply is also the one she’s caused the most pain to. This creates a really difficult dynamic for her. It’s always hard to confront the hurt you’ve caused someone you care about and take responsibility for your mistakes. This is especially true for someone who’s naturally proud and tends to avoid difficult feelings.

Glenn star Hara described his character’s first season as very complex and emotionally challenging. He’s accepted Mackenzie’s choice to return to London, even though he doesn’t know she heard him confess his feelings for her.

Honestly, I was totally stunned when she showed up again the next day! It immediately kicked off this really complicated dynamic between them, especially because he was about to get married. It was a shock, for sure, but also he seemed genuinely relieved and thankful she was back in town.

When discussing Glenn and Daisy’s relationship in the upcoming season, Hara explained that the writers skillfully avoid creating conflict between the two women, even within the love triangle.

It’s not simply that Mack and Daisy dislike each other,” he explained. “That actually makes things much harder for him, forcing him to deal with a really tricky situation. I think Glenn understands this too – it’s about his desire to do what’s right and maintain some goodness.

Honestly, I’ve always seen him as a really loyal and good guy. If he suddenly ditched Daisy for Mack, I think that would actually be worse for her, because it’s just so out of character for him. He’s not the type to do something like that!

It’s a difficult situation, trying to support his feelings while also acknowledging that there are still unresolved issues with Mack.

Season two of Return to Paradise will continue to follow Mackenzie and her team as they investigate challenging mysteries in Dolphin Cove, alongside returning cast members like Lloyd Griffith, Catherine McClements, Celia Ireland, Aaron L McGrath, and Andrea Demetriades. While there’s still a romantic storyline, the focus is on the new cases they’ll be solving.

Season 2 of Return to Paradise begins Friday, October 31st at 8pm on BBC One and will also be available on BBC iPlayer.
