Rings of Power season 3 gets major release update after previously being tipped for 2027 release

Prime Video’s Rings of Power season 3 will reportedly premiere later this year.

While many expected the next season of the Lord of the Rings spin-off to arrive in 2027, given the time needed to make and finish earlier seasons, The Hollywood Reporter says it will actually be released earlier than that.

The first season of The Rings of Power was Amazon’s most-watched debut series ever, attracting 25 million viewers on its first day.

The third season will jump forward in time, according to the official storyline details.

Season three begins several years after the events of season two, during the peak of the war between the Elves and Sauron. Sauron is attempting to forge the One Ring, hoping it will give him the power to win the war and finally conquer all of Middle-earth.

Season 3 will bring back familiar faces, including Charlie Vickers as Sauron, Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, and Robert Aramayo as Elrond.

I’m really excited to see some new faces joining the cast! We’ve got Jamie Campbell Bower, who I loved in Stranger Things, and Eddie Marsan, always great – you might recognize him from Sherlock Holmes. Plus, Andrew Richardson (Ponies), Zubin Varla (Andor), and Adam Young (Sex Education) are all on board, though we don’t know exactly who they’ll be playing just yet. It’s a fantastic group, and I can’t wait to see what they bring to the project!

The second season ended with shocking deaths caused by Charlie Vickers’s character, Sauron, hinting at an upcoming war with the Elves. Viewers also discovered who Daniel Weyman’s character, The Stranger, really is.

As a huge fan of ‘Rings of Power,’ I’ve been following the creators’ plans closely, and it sounds like they’ve had a long-term vision from the start. JD Payne actually told TopMob they were aiming for a five-season story arc – it wasn’t something they just decided on the fly, but a plan they’ve been developing for a while now.

He explained that from the very beginning, when they first discussed the project and the location, they all felt there was a compelling story to share.

He explained that this period in Middle-earth’s history is exciting because of the major, significant events that happen during it.

You can find details in the back of the books. We designed each season of the show around a few key, important events. Keep watching to see what happens next!

As a total cinema lover, I always keep an eye on who’s covering the latest buzz, and I recently came across Molly Moss. She’s a Trends Writer for TopMob, basically keeping everyone up-to-date on what’s hot in TV and film. She’s clearly a seasoned journalist too – she has a Master’s in Newspaper Journalism and has written for some major publications like The Guardian, The Times, and The Sun Online. It’s good to know someone with that kind of background is tracking what’s new!
