According to TMZ, actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Los Angeles home on December 14th. They were 78 and 68 years old, respectively, and both had suffered knife wounds. Police are investigating the deaths as a potential robbery and homicide. Reiner was a highly respected figure in the entertainment industry, known for directing the iconic 1984 mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, which launched his career and is considered a classic comedy.
Rob Reiner wasn’t just known for comedy. He directed a diverse range of films, becoming famous for classics in many different genres. He created beloved romantic comedies like When Harry Met Sally, intense dramas like A Few Good Men, and heartwarming stories about growing up, such as Stand By Me.
Rob Reiner Leaves Behind a Legendary Career

Rob Reiner directed a string of hugely successful films in the 1980s and 90s, including the classics Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and A Few Good Men. Each of these movies received at least one Academy Award nomination, highlighting their quality and impact. While Reiner continued directing after that period, none of his later films quite reached the same level of success. In 2025, he finally released a sequel to his iconic mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, titled Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. Although it didn’t receive the same critical acclaim as the original, it was generally well-received by fans.
Originally, Rob Reiner planned a much more somber ending for When Harry Met Sally, where Harry and Sally would go their separate ways. At the time, Reiner was going through a divorce and felt pessimistic about relationships, which influenced the film’s initial direction. However, he met his future wife, Michele Singer, while working on the movie, and this changed his outlook. He ultimately rewrote the ending to the happier conclusion we see in the final cut.
I’ve always been amazed by Rob Reiner’s versatility! While he’s famous for directing, he’s actually been a working actor for years. I loved spotting him in cameos as himself on shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm, 30 Rock, and even The Simpsons. And he’s done some great supporting roles in movies too, like The Wolf of Wall Street. Of course, you can’t forget his hilarious performance in the Spinal Tap films – he was perfect in those!
