Rogue, Daredevil & More Top Character Wishlists from Marvel Cosmic Invasion Creators

In the upcoming game known as “Marvel Cosmic Invasion“, some of the well-known characters include Spider-Man, Captain America, Storm, Wolverine, and others, but not all of the 15 characters set for launch have been disclosed yet. With a lineup of 15 characters, this game is already quite an endeavor, but given the expansive nature of the Marvel universe, it’s plausible that downloadable content (DLC) characters might be added to the roster post-launch. Already, fans eager for “Marvel Cosmic Invasion” have been expressing their preferences for characters, and even the developers have their own lists of desired characters.

As a dedicated fan, I’d like to take a moment to applaud the roster size in Marvel Cosmic Invasion before diving into other aspects. While beat ’em up games are often known for smaller character lineups compared to fighting games, Marvel Cosmic Invasion strikes a balance with 15 starting characters. This is quite impressive considering it easily could’ve had fewer. Yannick Belzil, the narrative designer at Tribute Games for Marvel Cosmic Invasion, shared that they and Marvel decided on 15 characters in the end.

During the interview with ComicBook, Belzil explained, “That was essentially a decision from higher-ups. Initially, we were taken aback when they said we needed to limit our initial release to only 15 characters.

In simpler terms, Belzil explained that Marvel originally wanted to begin with 15 characters, and initially there were doubts. However, Tribute Games managed to fulfill the request with assistance from skilled pixel artists and freelancers. When asked about a more manageable number considering the suddenness of 15, Belzil mentioned “seven or eight.” Consequently, the roster for Marvel Cosmic Invasion is significantly larger than it potentially could have been in another development scenario.

From a passionate fan’s perspective, Belzil hinted that the team is heavily invested in the upcoming launch at the moment, which means any wishlists or ideas proposed beyond this phase might not receive immediate attention. However, much like eager Marvel Cosmic Invasion fans, Belzil has his own vision for the future. In our conversation, U.S. 1 was mentioned as an intriguing idea that unfortunately won’t materialize. Characters such as Rogue, while less probable, are still on Belzil’s radar and hold great potential for Marvel fans like myself.

He mentioned that it’s effortless to join the classic X-Men team due to their unique abilities. However, he has a fondness for Rogue, but in their game, since Rogue collaborates with other characters, she would require animation sequences for every character she partners with and for all villains she fights against. This complexity makes him question whether it’s feasible to include Rogue, despite his strong affection for her. If given the chance, he would have loved to incorporate her into their game.

It’s possible that Rogue may have a slim chance, but characters similar to those from the Defenders could potentially have a better opportunity to join the Marvel Cosmic Invasion. Since many of the game’s enemies are extraterrestrial and non-human, it would be intriguing for Belzil to see these otherwise grounded heroes from the Defenders in contrast.

He expressed his affection for The Defenders and found the concept of street-level characters battling aliens in space intriguing. Just as Daredevil, he envisions this scenario to be thrilling, with him using his billy club against extraterrestrial foes.

This year, we’ll be seeing the launch of “Marvel Cosmic Invasion” towards the end, so keep an eye out for many exciting character unveilings before that time comes!
