2026 promises a lot of exciting returns in the anime world! January will be packed with new seasons of popular shows like Jujutsu Kaisen, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Hell’s Paradise, Oshi no Ko, Fire Force, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, and Trigun. Among these comebacks, Ronin Warriors stands out – it’s been decades since the show was last on air! The revival will feature a new cast and a trailer hints at a much darker and more intense take on the classic “Samurai Troopers” than fans might remember.
The new trailer for the upcoming revival series, launching January 6th, shows a much more intense and violent tone than the original. Many Western viewers who grew up with the show in North America, where it was aimed at a younger audience, might expect a similar approach. However, this trailer reveals a grittier reboot with plenty of action and visible injuries for both the heroes and a new group of villains. It’s clear the creators aren’t holding back this time around.
Ronin Warriors’ Villains Revealed
The original Ronin Warriors series featured the evil demon lord Talpa and his Four Dark Warlords – Dais, Sekhmet, Cale, and Anubis – who embodied Deception, Poison, Darkness, and Cruelty. The sequel introduces a new enemy: Ramaga and his Ten Braves, who appear to be filling the roles previously held by Talpa and his forces. While we haven’t yet explored the symbolic meaning of each Brave like we did with the Warlords, some of these new antagonists have already been revealed.
The upcoming season will introduce a new group of villains: Nezu, Anayama, Unno, Kakei, and Mochizuki. These characters will be voiced by well-known anime voice actors, including Kenichi Suzumura (known for Gintama), Chiharu Sawashiro (Dr. Stone), Ryota Takeuchi (Given), Daichi Endo (My Hero Academia), and Toshiki Kumagai (You Are Ms. Servant). In the original series, the villains eventually rebelled against their leader and teamed up with the heroes for a dramatic ending. It remains to be seen if this revival will follow the same path with its new antagonists, but fans will have to wait and find out.
The anime series Ronin Warriors became popular in North America when it first aired as a Saturday morning cartoon in 1995, and later on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block. Some scenes were originally changed to be suitable for younger viewers, but those restrictions are gone in the new reboot, as shown in the latest trailer.
