Have you heard about the new God of War game reportedly being worked on at Santa Monica Studio? It’s been in development for several years and is led by the experienced director, Cory Barlog.
According to a recent leak, we might soon see a much larger world built around the popular PlayStation franchise.
A former senior writer shared a now-deleted LinkedIn post that appears to confirm these plans.
Someone shared on ResetEra that a former employee of the game studio worked there for a little over five years and left in September 2025.
As a huge God of War fan, I was really excited to hear they were key in figuring out the story and overall creative look for a brand new series within that world! They basically helped decide what the next big adventure would be and how it would feel.
So, I found out this artist actually helped build out the characters, story, and the whole backstory of the game – basically, they added a ton to an already awesome world!
If this information is accurate, the next God of War game – the one Cory Barlog and his team started developing before the release of Ragnarok – will likely explore a different story and setting than we’ve seen with Kratos so far.
Rumors have been circulating that this project will be unlike anything we’ve seen before, and this recent leak seems to confirm those reports.
It remains to be seen if Kratos will return as the main character, or if the next game will feature a completely new protagonist. There’s also a lot of talk suggesting the game will explore the world of ancient Egyptian mythology.
What are you hoping to see in the next God of War game? Are you interested in a completely new story and characters, or something that builds on what we already know? Share your ideas in the comments!
