The God of War series is known for its memorable weapons, and if rumors are true that Kratos is traveling to Egypt next, we might see that tradition continue with some new, powerful gear.
The original Greek games introduced the iconic Blades of Chaos, and when the series moved to Norse mythology, Kratos began using the freezing Leviathan axe instead.
According to Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, the next major God of War game will feature Kratos wielding an Egyptian sword.
He didn’t offer many specifics, just that the sword will be similar to the one used by the prince in the game Prince of Persia. This probably means it’s a scimitar, though a khopesh is also a possibility.
Henderson’s statements further suggest that future God of War games will be set in ancient Egypt.
If you look closely at the Norse games, you’ll find hints about Egypt, and concept art suggests Egyptian mythology will be included. We previously reported on this potential setting at Insider Gaming.
While the next game isn’t likely to be a direct sequel to God of War, reports indicate a spin-off is in development. This new title could return the series to its roots in ancient Greece with a 2D, exploration-focused style similar to Metroidvania games, potentially releasing in 2026.
We may not know for sure if these rumors about an Egyptian storyline are true for a while, but the evidence is starting to seem pretty strong. Plus, as we’ve seen, hints of this setting already appear in the games based on Norse mythology.
