Currently, the most popular movie on Netflix in the U.S. is the original film, A House of Dynamite. Featuring Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson, the movie imagines how the U.S. government might react to an incoming nuclear missile. Critics have generally liked it, giving it a 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though regular viewers have had more mixed reactions. Still, it’s not a shock that this new, high-profile film is number one. More surprisingly, the 2007 thriller Premonition is currently at number eight.
Despite starring Sandra Bullock, the movie Premonition only received positive reviews from 8% of critics on Rotten Tomatoes, according to their scores from 160 reviews. However, it was still a financial success, earning four times its $20 million production budget when it came out almost twenty years ago.
What Is Premonition About?

I recently watched Premonition, and it’s a really interesting film. Sandra Bullock and the late Julian McMahon play Linda and Jim Harrison, a couple going through a tough time in their marriage. The story kicks off when Jim goes away on a business trip, and Linda gets the devastating news that he’s died in a car crash. But then, the really strange part happens – she wakes up the next day and Jim is just… there, downstairs, perfectly fine! It’s a total head-scratcher and sets the stage for a very twisty plot.
But the next day, Jim dies again, and this time their daughter has mysterious cuts on her face. Linda quickly realizes she isn’t experiencing time in a normal order, which leads to problems with the sheriff and a doctor who start to suspect her of causing her husband’s death. Can she figure out how to prevent his death and maybe even save their marriage?
Honestly, most of the criticism seemed to focus on how the movie’s plot felt a little too familiar – like a lower-budget take on Memento. But I will say, a lot of people really praised Sandra Bullock’s performance. Even though the script relied on some pretty tired tropes, she really committed to the role and gave it everything she had, and you could tell.
Completing the list of the top ten most popular movies in the United States are KPop Demon Hunters, Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers, The Perfect Neighbor, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, Despicable Me 3, the 2009 film Law Abiding Citizen, and Life of the Party, featuring Melissa McCarthy and Molly Gordon. Will you be watching any of these, or might you consider watching Premonition sometime?
