Housemarque still excels at the fast-paced, challenging gameplay they’re known for, and their new game, Saros, is a perfect example. It takes the quick reflexes required in Returnal and ramps up the intensity. A recently released gameplay clip shows the character Arjun fighting a tough enemy and dodging a constant stream of attacks.
Housemarque isn’t exaggerating when it says “Endless Bullets of Corruption Shall Devour The Very Floor You Walk On.” The game features yellow projectiles that linger on the ground like traps, and can even reduce your health if you step on them. On top of that, enemies fire fast, red projectiles up close. However, this is where a new ability comes in: parrying. This allows players to deflect the attacks and turn the tables.
This feels like an improvement over the way you avoid damage in Returnal. Enemies are actually pushed back and take damage when hit. The game still wants you to dodge and grab blue projectiles, which powers up your weapon for massive attacks. And if the enemy fire gets too intense, you’ll eventually unlock an ability to absorb it all.
The psychological horror game Saros will be released on PlayStation 5 on April 30th and is now finalized, meaning development is complete. We’ve been really impressed with how Saros builds upon and improves the gameplay of Returnal.
