Scotty McCreery is mourning the loss of two special women in his life.
The former contestant on American Idol announced that he lost both his grandmothers – Janet Hunter Cooke and Paquita McCreery – on July 9th. They were 85 and 93 years old.
Scotty, aged 31, expressed his deep sorrow on Instagram on July 10th, posting a photo of him and his wife Gabi McCreery with his grandmothers at their wedding in 2018. He wrote, “My heart is shattered following the passing of both my Grandma Janet and Grandma Paquita. I’m struggling to come to terms with it as I write this, but I find solace in recalling the wonderful moments we shared together.
There are just so many to recall. From dancing slowly on the farm in Elizabeth City, to trips with Grandma Janet to the Outer Banks, and the unforgettable moments spent at the backyard pool in Pinehurst – not forgetting our adventures in Puerto Rico with Grandma Paquita,” the “Slow Dance” singer reminisced.
Scott – father to two-year-old Merrick and expecting another baby with Gabi this year – further mentioned that the impact these children have on him will endure.
He penned down, “They both showed me the essence of love, and I’ll deeply miss them. If you wouldn’t mind keeping my loved ones in your thoughts, I would be grateful.
In addition to the country star, both his mother Judy Cooke and father Mike McCreery also contemplated the sorrow, as they each honored their own mothers and mothers-in-law with heartfelt tributes.
Mike shared on Instagram on June 10, “It’s tough to post this, but my cherished mother, Paquita, departed yesterday around 4pm. I’ll deeply miss her, but she had a rich and fulfilling life at the age of 93. There are so many beautiful memories that will help me when I feel sad about her absence, knowing that I’ll meet her again someday.
Not only that, but we sadly lost Janet, Judy’s mother, just a few hours prior, around 1pm. She was an extraordinary woman, and I feel grateful for the 40 years I had with her and the unwavering support she provided me. We are touched by your kind thoughts and prayers as we face this difficult period.
In her personal note, Judy expressed that it was incredibly difficult to comprehend the sudden loss of Paquita, given that she had passed away only a few hours after her mother’s demise.
Yesterday, my beloved mom, aged 85, sadly passed away at WakeMed, just after 1pm. She shared this news on Facebook that same day. She had been fighting norovirus and the flu, which in turn led to dehydration and pneumonia. My heart is shattered as I come to terms with this reality – it was her time.
