Ghostface is chasing Scream 7 past a major box office milestone.
The latest Scream movie, Scream 7, released in 2026 – thirty years after the first film – brought back Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott. While the film opened strong with $63.6 million, surpassing the $44.4 million debut of Scream VI, it experienced a significant drop in viewership during its second week. The 73.3% decrease was the largest in the franchise’s history, exceeding the 62.4% drop seen with Scream 4.
After a bit of a downturn, the latest Scream movie is doing well again. According to Deadline, it made $2.2 million on Friday, bringing its total earnings in the US to $100.4 million. This makes it the fourth film in the Scream series to reach $100 million domestically.
The movie reached a major financial milestone in just 15 days, making it the fastest film in the Scream series to earn over $100 million. The previous record was held by Scream VI from 2023, which took 28 days to reach the same amount.

As a horror fan, I’m telling you, Scream 7 is poised to become the biggest Scream movie ever domestically. It’s practically there! After Sunday, it only needs to make about $2.8 million more to beat out Scream VI‘s $108.4 million record – making it the highest-grossing film in North America from the franchise. And honestly? I fully expect it to happen before the end of its third week in cinemas. It’s doing incredibly well!
Despite a significant drop in ticket sales during its second week, this recent success suggests Scream 7 is on track to become the most financially successful film in the Scream franchise worldwide. Even if it doesn’t reach that level, the movie has likely already earned enough to cover its $45 million production cost, with estimates placing the break-even point around $112.5 million.
Okay, so Scream 7 has had a really rough time – the reviews were the worst of the whole series (only 31% on Rotten Tomatoes!), and there were calls to boycott it after Melissa Barrera, who was in the last two films, was fired for her views on the conflict in Palestine. But even with all that drama, it seems like the movie did well enough in theaters that the studio will probably give the go-ahead for Scream 8 sooner rather than later. It’s a bit surprising, honestly, considering everything, but it looks like the franchise will continue!
