Just a heads-up: an anime adaptation of the acclaimed action game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is coming, and a new trailer has just dropped!
The anime series Sekiro: No Defeat, announced last year, perfectly captures the feel and style of the original intense video game, creating a mood that fans will instantly recognize.
Here’s the new trailer:
Okay, so I’m super excited because this anime is going to be streaming on Crunchyroll everywhere, which is awesome! Plus, people in Japan are actually getting to see it in theaters, which is pretty cool too.
There’s still no date attached, but it’s set for release later this year.
This anime takes place in feudal Japan and largely retells the story of the original game, but with a stronger focus on developing its characters. Here’s the official description:
Japan is divided into warring states. At its heart is Ashina, a land steeped in history and spiritual power. Twenty years after the warrior Isshin Ashina seized control through force, a dangerous new enemy rises within Ashina itself: The Interior Ministry. To defend his country, Isshin’s grandson, Genichiro, resorts to dark and forbidden techniques. The fate of Japan rests on a captive boy – the Divine Heir – and his steadfast, silent guardian, a shinobi known as Sekiro.
This tale follows a nobleman and his loyal servant as they embark on a journey to save their country from falling into chaos.
We really enjoy the anime’s art style. We’re hoping it stays true to the source material, but if not, we can always revisit the game to refresh our memory.
