Shakespeare & Hathaway star teases Ackley Bridge reunion in new episodes

The popular detective series, Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators, is back for a new season tonight on U&Alibi, and you can tune in to Stratford-upon-Avon to catch the action!

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of the beloved mystery series, as the last season aired in 2022. Thankfully, the original stars – Jo Joyner, Mark Benton, and Patrick Walshe McBride – are all back to play their familiar roles as Luella Shakespeare, Frank Hathaway, and Sebastian Brudenell.

In addition to the main actors everyone loves, each episode will feature exciting guest stars – some new, and some you might recognize!

Joyner shared that many of their friends will appear in the new episodes. They mentioned, almost as an aside, that a few cast members from Ackley Bridge were among them.

It was so great to have Amy-Leigh Hickman on the show – we’re actually good friends! And then there was Poppy Lee Friar, who you probably know as one of the stars of Ackley Bridge. Having them both was fantastic.

I’m getting a serious dose of EastEnders nostalgia with this project! It’s turning into a bit of a reunion, actually. I’ve been working with Kaye Wragg, who I remember from ‘No Angels’, and Kacey Ainsworth has joined the cast too – we never shared screen time on EastEnders, but we run in similar circles. Plus, we’ve got Matt D’Angelo and Celia Touchstone on board – Celia’s been absolutely brilliant, honestly.

It’s been wonderful having so many fantastic guests on the show. I’ve especially enjoyed working with friends like Guy Henry, Roger Griffiths, and Amy-Leigh Hickman. We also had Colin Baker, who was a real pleasure – he’s incredibly charming and appears in one of the episodes.

Joyner is known for her role as headteacher Mandy Carter in the Channel 4 drama. Hickman and Friar played prominent student characters, Nasreen Paracha and Missy Booth. Joyner was on the show from 2017 to 2021 and has since appeared in several limited series, including leading roles in projects like The Wives, Riptide, and Little Disasters.

After a few years, fans will finally see Lucy Joyner return as her cheerful character, Luella, in the latest season of Shakespeare & Hathaway.

Honestly, for a bit there, the show’s fans were really anxious about whether it would even continue, and they definitely let Joyner know how they felt! They made their voices heard, that’s for sure.

I’ve been getting DMs and messages almost daily about whether the show will return. I recently spoke to the press and already knew it was likely coming back, but I was desperate to share the news!

I’m really excited about this show! I love it because it’s close to home, which is convenient, and I get to work with a wonderful cast – the guys are amazing, and I truly enjoy collaborating with them.
