Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump recently cancelled a new series, and fans are disappointed it ended so soon. This is the fifth major cancellation for the magazine this year, as Shueisha prepares to launch new series and attract readers. To make space for these new titles, some existing ones are being cut relatively quickly.
Fans had predicted the cancellation of Akira Inui’s Alien Headbutt for several weeks, as the story seemed to be rushing towards a quick ending. Now, those predictions have been confirmed. After initial reports of an early finish, Alien Headbutt has officially been cancelled in Shonen Jump with the release of its 16th and final chapter. Despite not reaching its full potential, many fans are disappointed to see the series end.
Shonen Jump Cancels Alien Headbutt With Chapter 16

It’s really sad to say, but Alien Headbutt is over! Chapter 16 just dropped, and that’s it for the series on Shonen Jump. It’s a super quick cancellation – a lot of other series got around 19 chapters before ending, so this feels particularly rough. It’s been amazing to see support from fans outside of Japan, but honestly, the series just didn’t seem to catch on with readers in Japan, and that wrestling-focused action didn’t quite land with them.
Viewers anticipated the series’ cancellation after Ouga gained a powerful new form and swiftly defeated several impressive alien foes who seemed intended for more extended battles. The second-to-last episode even launched the final conflict for Earth’s survival (taking place on the moon!), and the finale delivered Ouga’s victory. Despite all this promise, the series ended abruptly, before it could fully develop its potential.
What’s Being Cancelled Next in Shonen Jump?

Shonen Jump announced it will launch three new manga series throughout June. With the cancellation of Alien Headbutt, one slot is now open. However, this means two other current series will also conclude. While it’s possible a popular title like Sakamoto Days, Blue Box, or Hima-Ten! (and maybe even Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi) could finish its run, it’s more probable that another series will be canceled to make room. Unfortunately, there aren’t many options available.
Only two other series, Under Doctor and Kinato’s Magic, might be nearing cancellation, but neither appears to be ending soon. Under Doctor recently started promoting itself on social media and released its first manga volume, while Kinato’s Magic has actually slowed down during a new story arc that doesn’t seem to be wrapping up. It’s unclear which series will conclude its run next.
