Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump is launching a new fantasy series following a surprising cancellation earlier this month, and they’ve just released a first look. It’s been a year of change for Shonen Jump. After concluding several major titles in 2024, including My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen, 2025 saw further cancellations with series like Undead Unluck and Mission: Yozakura Family ending quickly after the new year began.
Earlier this month, Shueisha announced three new manga series would be launching this fall. This meant some existing series would need to end to make room, and the first to be cancelled is Jun Furukawa’s Kaedegami, which only ran for 17 chapters. Now, a new series called Gonron Egg is debuting this week, and Shueisha and Viz Media have released a preview.
Gonron Egg Gets Ready for Shonen Jump Debut

I’m so excited about this new series! Shuhei Tanizaki, the creator, is bringing us Gonron Egg, and Shueisha and Viz Media are already hinting it’s joining the Shonen Jump lineup this weekend. From what I’ve gathered, it’s a fantasy story about a kid who gets a mysterious egg and suddenly has the power to fight against the demons who’ve taken over humanity. It sounds like exactly the kind of action-packed fantasy we all love, and honestly, it feels like it’s following a similar path to what Kaedegami was aiming for with its own serialization attempt. I can’t wait to read it!
It’s hard to predict which new manga series in Shonen Jump will become popular in Japan, so every cancellation is unexpected. Sometimes a series runs for about a year, trying out initial storylines without gaining much traction, while others, like Kaedegami, are cancelled after only a few chapters—and we might see more of this in the coming months. Shonen Jump magazine itself is also going to see some changes in the future.
What’s Next for Shonen Jump This Fall?
With changes continuing this fall for Shonen Jump, two new series are set to begin publication in the coming weeks. While official English titles haven’t been announced yet, “Tonari no Osoegawa” by Hideaki Nabe will debut next week, followed by “JK Yuusha to Inkyo Maou” by Hatsubina Matsuri the week after. To make space for these new titles, two existing series will conclude, though it’s currently unknown which ones. Initial reports suggest one of the ending series is a sports manga that didn’t last very long.
Shonen Jump recently announced that The Elusive Samurai is nearing its conclusion, though they haven’t said exactly when it will end. This series might be finishing to make space for a new manga with potential, or it could be cancelled unexpectedly soon. Regardless, things are about to get interesting for manga readers.
