One of the trickiest puzzles in *Silent Hill f* is the Scarecrow Field Puzzle, found in the rice field south of Rinko’s house in Ebisugaoka. When you enter, you’ll see a foggy field filled with scarecrows. A note hints that the scarecrows hold the key to escaping. You need to pull the correct nail from one of the scarecrows, which will make it point you towards the next step, and ultimately, the exit.

Watch out! Pulling nails from the wrong scarecrows will anger them. The nails are generally located on the scarecrow’s body between its neck and waist, so pay close attention while searching.

Pro tips:

  • Every correct scarecrow is female. When in doubt, pick a girl.
  • Some scarecrows will attack you along the way. It’s best to take them down immediately, as they won’t stop chasing you.

Scarecrow Field Puzzle – Story Difficulty

Scarecrow n°1:

Who are you? Why do you have to be different than everyone else? Freak.

Find the female scarecrow with bobbed hair holding a long, curved blade behind her.

Scarecrow n°2:

Who are you? Honestly. You’re helpless without me.

Locate the female scarecrow with no weapon in her hands.

Scarecrow n°3:

Who are you? I’ll be your friend. Otherwise, you’d be so miserably alone.

Spot the female scarecrow bending backward with a golden bird pinned to her jacket.

Scarecrow n°4:

So, who are you people? And honestly, are you just friends? I’ve been keeping an eye on you both for a while now, without you realizing it.

Find the scarecrow who is a woman with short hair. She’s pointing to the left with one hand and towards another scarecrow with long hair with the other.

Scarecrow n°5:

Who are you? You. Yes, you.

Choose the female scarecrow with bobbed hair, looking down, arms out to the side with palms down.

Scarecrow Field Puzzle – Hard Difficulty

Scarecrow n°1:

Can you even imagine how I feel? I’ll put on my polite smile for now. 

Okay, so you need to go up to that scarecrow – you know, the one who’s smiling and holding a sickle, and her head is tilted back? It’s on the left side. If you take the nail off of her, you’ll get a flash card that says, ‘It’s okay. You don’t have to be afraid anymore.’

Scarecrow n°2:

Can you even imagine how I feel? What’s it like to have been deceived by you for so long? 

Choose the female scarecrow who has been stabbed in the back and is looking downwards. If you remove the nail from her, you’ll receive a flash card that says: “That’s what I said to you when I saw you so scared.”

Scarecrow n°3:

Can you even imagine how I feel? He never once looked at me the way he looked at you. Not once. 

Focus on the gloomy-looking scarecrow woman who isn’t carrying anything and is facing away from you. She has a nail stuck in her belly button on her left side. If you remove the nail, you’ll get a flash card that says, “I wonder why I called you over.”

Scarecrow n°4:

Can you even imagine how I feel? You’ve always been such an eyesore. 

Choose the gloomy-looking female scarecrow who has her arms spread out and is facing to the right. If you remove her fingernail, you’ll get a card that says: “I could’ve just lied to you. Told you to go any which way.”

Scarecrow n°5:

It’s hard to explain how much this hurts. You’ve not only hurt me, but you’ve also hurt someone else. It’s awful having to pretend to be okay when I’m looking at you, someone who’s caused me so much pain.

Take the nail out of the scarecrow – she’s a woman with a sickle stuck in her back, and her arms are spread wide as she looks down. This will give you the same card you saw earlier.

Scarecrow Field Puzzle – Lost in the Fog Difficulty

Scarecrow n°1:

It’s your funeral today. I think I’ll give you a standing ovation. 

Look closely at the female scarecrow whose head is turned upside down. If you take out the nail, you’ll find a note about Ebisugaoka.

Scarecrow n°2:

Today’s the day you’re buried. Frankly, I’m relieved. It’s like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

Examine the scarecrow that is a woman, with her arms spread wide and looking downwards. Taking out the nail from her will uncover a hidden item.

Scarecrow n°3:

Today marks the end for you. You caused him pain, and now you’re facing the consequences, leaving him to deal with the aftermath. I hope you experience the full weight of your actions.

Examine the second female scarecrow, which has its head turned upside down. Taking out the nail hidden inside will reveal another clue.

Scarecrow n°4:

It’s your funeral today. You were such a thorn in my side. Always getting between me and him. 

Look closely at the scarecrow – she’s a woman and is smiling with her head tilted back, gazing to the right. If you remove the nail, you’ll find a hidden message or item.

Scarecrow n°5:

Today marks our final goodbye. I don’t want to see you again. Please live your own life, as you always have.

Look for the scarecrows spread out on the ground – they’re positioned to guide you, each one directing you towards the next. This trail will eventually lead you to a single, upright female scarecrow.

Lastly, take the nail out of the scarecrow-the one with arms spread wide and looking down-and you’ll get the last piece of information about Ebisugaoka.

After solving the puzzle, you can head to Rinko’s house, but be prepared – more challenges lie ahead. If you make all the right choices, you’ll unlock the Acupuncture Specialist achievement in Silent Hill f!
