Skeet Ulrich Reveals Why He Was Cut From ‘Scream 7’

Skeet Ulrich, known for his role in the Scream movies, has spoken out about the future of the series and confirmed he won’t be appearing in Scream 7. He revealed he doesn’t even have a brief cameo in the new film, which is directed by Kevin Williamson, the original writer, and will bring back Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette. Ulrich also explained that the writers decided to remove his character as part of a larger reimagining of the Scream franchise.

While promoting his new horror movie, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Ulrich talked to The New York Post. In the film, he plays a brand new character, alongside Matthew Lillard, who returns as William Afton – Lillard also starred with Ulrich in Scream. When asked if he’d be in the next Scream movie, Scream 7, the actor unfortunately didn’t have good news.

I’m not part of this project, but I’m really looking forward to seeing what happens. I’m especially excited that Kevin Williamson is leading the way, and I’m curious to see what he creates. I honestly have no idea what to expect.

The actor returned as Billy Loomis in both the 2022 and 2023 Scream films, though his role was small. He appeared only within the memories and thoughts of his daughter’s character. Originally, the storyline was planned to continue, but after Melissa Barrera left the franchise, the screenwriters decided to remove his character as well. This is why he won’t be in the new Scream 7, which is being completely rewritten with Kevin Williamson directing.

Originally, the plan involved a storyline spanning five, six, and seven films, with Billy Loomis – or rather, the idea of Billy Loomis as imagined by Melissa Barrera’s character – being a central figure. However, after the issues surrounding Melissa Barrera’s departure, that storyline, and the character’s internal perspective, were no longer possible.

How Is the Other Half of Billy Loomis’ Team Returning?

Dimension Films

The announcement of Scream 7 came with some big changes. A new creative team took over, bringing with them a fresh direction for the film. This included bringing back Sidney Prescott as the main character, swapping out some of the newer cast members, and surprisingly, resurrecting characters previously thought to be dead. Among those returning is Stu Macher, played by Matthew Lillard, who died in the original Scream back in 1996. Fans had long hoped for his return, and it seems those wishes have been granted.

Ulrich previously had a good understanding of the plot for Scream 7. He described the initial concept as “really, really interesting” and a promising direction for the franchise. However, things have shifted significantly with the Scream movies. When asked about Matthew Lillard potentially reprising his role, Ulrich shared that he used to be aware of the plans.

I’m really surprised Matt’s back, and honestly, I’m looking forward to seeing how it all plays out – I have no clue what to expect!

Fans were puzzled about how Lillard and Arquette’s characters could reappear, since they both died in earlier movies.
