Fans of the anime Solo Leveling are eager for news about a potential third season, as the second season ended without confirming its production. While the anime is on hold, the original Korean webcomic (manhwa) that started it all continues to release new chapters. Solo Leveling: Ragnarok focuses on Jinwoo Sung’s son and presents him with difficult challenges as he tries to live up to his father’s legacy. Recently, the Ragnarok sequel announced a temporary pause in releases due to an unexpected reason.
The original Solo Leveling was created by Chugong, but the sequel is being written by Dang Do with artwork by Jin. Recently, Jin announced he’s pausing work on Solo Leveling: Ragnarok because he needs to fulfill his mandatory military service in South Korea. He shared a heartfelt message with fans, explaining his departure, how much the series meant to him, and his plans to return. South Korea requires military service for a period of eighteen to twenty-one months, so Jin will be away for nearly two years.
Jin Explains His Solo Leveling Departure
In a recent message to fans, illustrator Jin shared his personal connection to Solo Leveling. He explained that he was a dedicated reader of the series even while in school, and that the work of the late Jang Seong-rak heavily inspired him to become an artist. He was thrilled and surprised to be chosen to work on Solo Leveling after participating in art contests, and still remembers the excitement he felt when he received the opportunity.
It’s been about four years since I first started working on Solo Leveling, and then Solo Leveling: Ragnarok. I’ve learned a lot as both a writer and a person through these projects, even though there were challenges and things I could have done better. Today marks the end of my work on the artwork, and I’m taking a break for a bit. I’ll be fulfilling my mandatory military service, which means stepping away for a while. I don’t see this as a final goodbye, though – it’s more of a chance to recharge and prepare for what comes next.
Jin concluded his message by expressing gratitude and sharing his hopes for the future. He thanked the artists he collaborated with and, especially, his readers for their love and support, saying their feedback meant a lot to him. He promised to keep this experience with him and continue creating work he’s proud of, and offered a final, heartfelt thank you.
