‘Some Analysts Believe Sony Is Considering Pushing the PS6 Back’: Embracer Report Hints at Later Than 2027 Launch

There’s talk that Sony was aiming to release the PlayStation 6 in late 2027, however, the technology world is currently facing a lot of uncertainty.

The growing popularity of artificial intelligence is driving up demand for electronic components, which is causing the price of consumer electronics, like gaming consoles, to increase significantly.

The price of the PlayStation 5 has recently jumped to a record high, and other gaming systems – including the Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam Deck – have also seen price increases.

Although reports suggest Sony prioritized affordability when designing the PS6, they still face challenges from overall industry trends. It’s currently unclear how Sony plans to release the console at a reasonable price.

Honestly, one idea being floated is just to hold off on releasing it for a while and hope the economy gets better. Even Embracer Group, a huge publisher, admitted that’s something they’re considering in their latest report.

It wrote:

According to some industry experts, Sony might delay the release of its new PlayStation. Instead of launching in 2027 as originally expected, it could come out in 2028 or possibly even 2029.

Sony probably has existing agreements with manufacturers, and canceling them could be costly.

Honestly, I’m a little worried that if the console does get delayed, they probably won’t bother changing the specs. That means it might feel a bit behind the times when it finally comes out, which would be a real shame!

So, Embracer seems to be sharing info they probably got from reports that were already out there. It’s not like they did the original research themselves – they likely had their team of experts look over existing data and put together what we’re seeing now.

Asha Sharma, the new head of Xbox, hinted that Microsoft might be redesigning its upcoming console, known as Project Helix. This comes after reports suggested the original design was very costly and intended to support multiple digital stores.

It seems like Sony will likely need to accept the current situation and focus on reducing costs gradually. I don’t anticipate any games being exclusive to the PS6, so I expect the console will initially attract dedicated gaming fans.

It’s unclear how PlayStation will promote this during economic hardship, but they might be content with just retaining existing players on their consoles, like the PS5 or future models such as the PS6.
