Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Filming Has Wrapped Up, Director Calls it “The Best Sonic Movie Yet”

Filming for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has officially finished, even though the movie won’t hit theaters until March 19th, 2027. Director Jeff Fowler shared the news on social media, excitedly claiming it will be the best Sonic movie yet.

That’s it – we’ve finished filming Sonic the Hedgehog 4! The whole cast and crew agree that this is the best Sonic movie so far, and we’re excited to share it with everyone soon.

Now that filming for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is finished, the movie will move into a detailed post-production phase. This includes editing, adding special effects, and all the other finishing touches. Although the exact plot of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is still a mystery, it’s confirmed that Metal Sonic will appear in the movie. This suggests we might also see characters or storylines from the Sonic CD game included in the film.

A recent report suggests that Paramount Pictures and Sega are collaborating on a new movie set in the same world as the Sonic the Hedgehog films. So, this report has gotten everyone talking, and honestly, I’m right there with them! A lot of fans, myself included, are hoping this movie will be a solo story focusing on Shadow the Hedgehog – and the idea of Keanu Reeves playing him is amazing. Plus, I’m really excited about the possibility of seeing characters like Rouge the Bat show up, since she’s always been closely tied to Shadow’s story.

The Sonic films have been very successful for both Sega and Paramount Pictures. As of January 2025, the movies have earned over $1 billion worldwide. The first two films, Sonic the Hedgehog and its sequel, brought in $725.2 million, while Sonic the Hedgehog 3 earned $312 million in 2024. With Sonic the Hedgehog 4 released in 2025, the franchise is expected to continue growing its impressive box office numbers.
