Jeremy Clarkson reveals he has stopped “real farming” at Clarkson’s Farm: “There’s no point”

Fans may see some big changes at Diddly Squat Farm this time around, its star reveals.

With the new season of Jeremy Clarkson’s popular Prime Video documentary, Clarkson’s Farm, almost here, Clarkson has hinted that viewers might see a different side of farm life this year, offering a more detailed look behind the scenes.

Jeremy Clarkson recently told The Times that the filming for the fifth season of his show, Clarkson’s Farm, which premieres next month on Prime Video, didn’t capture a lot of actual farm work.

Jeremy Clarkson explained they aren’t really farming this year. They’re just doing a bit of gardening, mainly growing herbs to sell in the farm shop, and dealing with rabbits.

Clarkson’s Farm, which began in 2021, documents Jeremy Clarkson’s journey to make his 1,000-acre farm near Chipping Norton a successful business, despite the challenges currently facing British farmers.

Jeremy Clarkson, along with his partner Lisa Hogan and farmhand Kaleb Cooper, shared that farmers are currently facing difficulties due to increased costs for essentials like fertilizer and red diesel – the fuel needed for farm equipment. These challenges will be featured in the new episodes of their docu-series, which will be released on Wednesday, June 3rd.

He explained that farming isn’t profitable and doesn’t see it improving. He pointed out that the UK will soon be adding a carbon tax to fertilizer, which is already very expensive – costing an enormous amount per ounce.

Clarkson notes that the only crop on his farm to increase in price is rapeseed, and that’s simply because it’s used to make oil.

According to a report in The Times, the new season of Clarkson’s Farm was filmed while the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, was announcing her October 2024 budget. This budget included a new inheritance tax that applies to farms which were previously tax-exempt.

Clarkson’s Farm has always shown the difficulties faced by British farmers, and farmers themselves have applauded the show for raising awareness of these challenges. However, recent developments could potentially threaten the future of the series.

Just before the new season premieres in early June, Prime Video dropped an official trailer giving fans a sneak peek at the messy, action-packed adventures to come.

Jeremy Clarkson has stated he plans to create six seasons of his show with Amazon, but he’ll end it when he feels the show has run its course. However, given the show’s huge popularity, there’s a good chance that ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ could continue with spin-off series after the main show finishes.

Last year, it was announced that Kaleb Cooper, known from Clarkson’s Farm, would be starring in his own show, Kaleb: Down Under. The series follows Kaleb as he travels to Australia to explore its large-scale farming industry.
