Sons of Anarchy Is Getting the Perfect Replacement Biker Show From OG Creator (With a Major DC Star)

Kurt Sutter, the creator of the popular biker dramas Sons of Anarchy and Mayans M.C., is developing a new series called Nomad. Following the end of Mayans M.C. in 2023, fans hadn’t heard much about the future of Sutter’s biker world, but that’s changed with this announcement. The new drama, co-created with Chris Collins (known for Sons of Anarchy and The Wire), will star Jason Momoa and be set in the dangerous world of New Zealand’s outlaw motorcycle gangs. The story centers on a conflicted warrior who must choose between two very different paths and families to determine his destiny.

Currently, there’s no official connection between Nomad and Sons of Anarchy, but the new series seems to follow a similar style to Sutter’s other biker dramas. Collins will be the showrunner and co-write the first episode with Sutter. Sutter, Collins, and Momoa will all be executive producers, and Brian Mendoza will also be an executive producer through his production company, On the Roam Productions, which he co-owns with Momoa.

Nomad Continues A Major Trend for Momoa

Jason Momoa’s been incredibly successful with films like The Minecraft Movie, but he’s also been busy with television and other projects. Throughout the 2020s, he’s produced and starred in several TV series that celebrate Polynesian and Pacific cultures, including Apple TV’s See and Chief of War, which focuses on the history of ancient Hawaii. Last year, he also combined his love of motorcycles with content creation, launching On the Roam, a travel and interview series for HBO Max.

Ultimately, Nomad feels like a perfect fit for Jason Momoa right now, offering a balance of different elements. Momoa excels in roles that play to his strengths as a rugged, tough actor, and a ‘violent biker with a strong moral compass’ is exactly the kind of character his fans expect and enjoy from him.

Okay, so everyone’s wondering what Jason Momoa taking on this new project, Nomad, means for his future with The Fast Saga. He definitely made a splash – and stirred up some controversy – as Dante Reyes, the villain in Fast X. Let’s just say his over-the-top, almost Joker-esque performance wasn’t a hit with everyone, both among fans and apparently, some people at the studio.

There’s not much evidence suggesting Jason Momoa will return to The Fast Saga. When asked about potentially appearing in Fast X Part 2 recently, he expressed his enthusiasm, saying he’d love to reprise the role because the character is so popular with fans worldwide.

Jason Momoa has confirmed he won’t be filming another Fast and Furious movie anytime soon, stating he hasn’t received a script. Currently, he’s focusing on a new project called Nomad, which seems to be a shift in his career path. He also has a role in an upcoming DC Universe film – he’ll play the alien bounty hunter Lobo in Supergirl, scheduled for release in 2026.
