Sony has shut down Dark Outlaw Games, a development studio it created in March 2025 and led by Jason Blundell, a former developer on the Call of Duty series, according to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier.
Prior to founding Dark Outlaw Games, Dave Blundell helped create Deviation Games, an independent studio partnered with Sony. However, Deviation Games was closed in March 2024 after Blundell left in September 2022. It became public in December 2023 that Blundell had been employed by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Before Jason Schreier reported on it, J-Soul on ResetEra revealed that Dark Outlaw Games was just beginning work on their first game. The number of people working at the studio isn’t known.
In addition to the closure of Dark Outlaw Games, Sony is also reducing staff in its mobile gaming division, impacting roughly 50 employees, as reported by Jason Schreier. According to J-Soul, this is part of a broader strategy to scale back investment in mobile gaming, though Sony will continue to support existing mobile titles such as MLB The Show Mobile and Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble.
