As a devoted fan of FromSoftware, I can’t help but crave more of the Soulsborne genre, whether it’s the undisputed mastery from the studio itself or games that strive to carve their own niche, known as Soulslikes. Luckily for us, there’s another title ready to step up if, by some twist of fate, Elden Ring Nightreign doesn’t meet expectations once it releases at the end of this month.
The game titled “Hell is Us“, developed by Rogue Factor, has stirred excitement since its initial trailer was released last year. Although it may not be entirely comparable to a Soulslike title, the game delves into similar ominous motifs and offers semi-open world exploration that fans might find appealing, especially if they are not enamored with FromSoftware’s upcoming project.
Hell is Us is the next 2025 best Souls game contender after Elden Ring Nightreign

For a brief moment, let’s speak candidly: The renowned studio known for games like Dark Souls and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is taking a risk with Elden Ring Nightreign. This is because they are delving into the multiplayer format for the first significant time in their history.
Even though we might not anticipate it, the odds of making mistakes are greater than usual for FromSoftware. Fortunately, if such mishaps occur, Rogue Company is prepared to win over disappointed fans with “Hell is Us”, set to debut in September this year. As I mentioned earlier, although it’s not marketed as a typical Soulslike game, the atmosphere and combat style of Hell is Us are reminiscent of the Soulsbornes’ genetic makeup.
The basic concept of this game is quite captivating. The main character, Rémi, explores a war-torn land called Hadea in search of his missing parents. However, his journey takes an unexpected turn when he encounters various supernatural entities haunting Hadea following an incident referred to as the Calamity.
In the game titled “Hell is Us“, you’re invited to take on a third-person perspective and confront the otherworldly entities lurking around. The game offers an engaging combat system, with a focus on close-quarters battles, made even more enjoyable by the variety of melee weapons at your disposal.
Hell is Us: A Soulslike game inspired by a movie

For a while now, FromSoftware has been the leading force behind the Souls game genre, but with newer titles like “Lies of P” and an upcoming game called “Hell is Us“, they might not maintain their monopoly on the market as players have more options to explore.
The game “Hell is Us” appears to be less of a copy and more of a creative reinterpretation. It could be described as if a Soulslike genre were reflected in an alternate universe. Interestingly, the title draws influence from Natalie Portman’s film, “Annihilation.
Even though Elden Ring Nightreign might amaze us all, if it doesn’t, Hell is Us could be our salvation as we wait for Hidetaka Miyazaki to unveil The Duskbloods on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
If you can’t hold off for “Elden Ring Nightreign,” “Hell is Us,” or “The Duskbloods,” perhaps it’s high time you explored another Soulslike game that debuted in 2023 and has been steadily enhancing to match the quality of “Elden Ring.
