Following some tough legal challenges and fights, the characters from South Park are back for their 27th season, and it’s been quite a ride! With just two episodes under their belts, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have demonstrated their readiness to tackle sensitive topics head-on. In the latest episode, “Got a Nut,” Mr. Mackey seeks a new job, Eric Cartman stirs up trouble, and an unexpected Superman appearance leaves fans in shock. Given the media attention South Park has garnered, it’s no surprise that season 27 is off to a fast start.
As an avid South Park fan, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! The second episode of this season, titled “Got A Nut,” was the fourth most watched show on television in its timeslot on Comedy Central for viewers aged 18-49 earlier this week. In fact, it’s the highest viewed South Park episode since the 2022 opener, “Pajama Day,” marking the start of the series’ twenty-fifth season.
Now, here’s a fun fact: these numbers only represent the show’s broadcast ratings and don’t include views from streaming platforms like Paramount+. But even without those figures, it’s clear that South Park is still making waves, boasting an impressive 27 seasons under its belt! This just goes to show that South Park remains as relevant and entertaining as ever.
South Park Will Continue For Years
Trey Parker and Matt Stone are set to launch Season 27, but South Park isn’t stopping there. Animation enthusiasts should brace themselves for numerous upcoming episodes and seasons on Comedy Central. In a significant agreement worth $1.5 billion with Paramount and Skydance, the creators of the series have agreed to produce ten new episodes annually for the next five years. Given that the provocative duo often work on fresh episodes right up until the release of the latest episode, it’s hard to predict what adventures lie ahead for Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman.
At the San Diego Comic-Con this year, Parker and Stone, following their recent legal triumph, were talking about the development of a new season. Due to requiring extra time for episode creation, the latest episode was postponed by a week from its initial broadcast date. During the convention, Trey Parker acknowledged this delay. Even as late as a few days before airing, the pair behind South Park weren’t entirely certain about the content of the upcoming episode, with Parker admitting, “This morning on South Park, we were still figuring out what next week’s show will be. Right now, we don’t know. Just last weekend, we were uncertain if people would enjoy it.
