Tom Holland will reprise his role as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Brand New Day this summer, marking his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after a hiatus since Phase 4. While the MCU is currently building towards the next Avengers movies in Phase 6, we’ll first get an update on what Peter Parker has been up to.
In a recent interview with Variety, Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman discussed the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. When asked if he’d seen any footage – principal photography wrapped in December 2025 – Rothman confirmed he hadn’t seen a final cut yet, but he had reviewed the daily footage. He expressed strong confidence in the film, calling it a potentially “surprising and terrific movie” and praising Destin Daniel Cretton’s work as “tremendous!”
Rothman jokingly responded to a question about whether Spider-Man: Brand New Day would be Tom Holland’s last film as Spider-Man by saying people should ask Holland directly. So far, there’s been no indication that the upcoming Phase 6 movie will be his last time playing the character.
Details about the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie are being closely guarded, including the role of Sadie Sink and how characters like the Hulk and Punisher will be involved. This film will be Tom Holland’s last solo Spider-Man movie before the next major Avengers team-up films, Doomsday and Secret Wars.
Michael Mando will return as Mac Gargan, the villain Scorpion, in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Joining him is Marvin Jones III, who previously voiced the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and will now make his live-action MCU debut as Lonnie Lincoln, also known as Tombstone.
Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to release on July 31.
