Spider-Man & Superman Fans Are Getting 2 Crossovers In The Space of A Month

Fans of Superman and Spider-Man have a lot to look forward to! After recently getting a preview of the first team-up comic coming in March, another crossover between the two heroes is already on its way. Similar to the successful Batman and Deadpool crossover, this second adventure promises to be just as exciting, and it’s arriving much sooner than many expected – within just a few weeks of the first!

Marvel and DC Comics are teaming up for a special crossover event in Spider-Man/Superman #1, bringing together two iconic heroes! Like previous crossovers, this issue will feature a main story alongside several shorter backup stories, all created by top comic book creators. Writing the main story is Brad Meltzer, in his first full Marvel Comics project, and he’s joined by artist Pepe Larraz, well-known for his work on Spider-Man.

Marvel Comics Taps Several Amazing Talents for New Spider-Man/Superman Crossover

So, what’s causing Superman and Spider-Man to team up in this story by Meltzer and Larraz? It all starts with a surprising alliance between Lex Luthor and Norman Osborn. But that’s just the beginning! This crossover event features a fantastic group of creators and exciting new adventures. Dan Slott and Marcos Marin are taking us back to the early days of comics, pairing the original Superman with Spider-Man Noir. And Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman are working together again, bringing symbiotes to Metropolis and forcing Thor (as Jane Foster) and Wonder Woman to join forces.

There’s even more exciting news: Geoff Johns is returning to comics with a Marvel story after more than 20 years! He’s teaming up with Gary Frank to create a plot where Mysterio tricks the families of Spider-Man and Superman into fighting each other. Plus, Louise Simonson is writing a new story featuring her character Steel, with art by Todd Nauck, where John Henry Irons battles the Hobgoblin. Joe Kelly and Humberto Ramos will be exploring the connection between Gwen Stacy and Lana Lang, and Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli will conclude the event with a team-up featuring Spider-Man Miles Morales and Superman.

As you’d expect from Marvel, they’re releasing a ton of alternate covers by popular artists. Walter Simonson has created a cover featuring Thor and Steel with the menacing Hobgoblin in the background. Sara Pichelli depicts Miles Morales casually hanging out with Superman, and Peach Momoko’s cover of Supergirl and Spider-Gwen has fans hoping for a team-up story. Other artists contributing covers include Ryan Stegman, Marcos Martin, Erik Larsen, Jerome Opeña, Russell Dauterman, Kaare Andrews, and Mark Bagley, with another special logo-mashup variant still to be revealed.

DC Comics and Marvel Really Are Going All-Out for Their Crossovers

Growing up, I never thought I’d see Marvel and DC characters team up in comics, so I’m thrilled the two companies are doing more of these crossover events. For over twenty years, there was no interaction between Marvel and DC, making these two crossovers in March and April especially exciting, particularly after the success of the Batman and Deadpool team-up. While it’s hard to say if we’ll see even more crossovers after the Spider-Man/Superman event, there’s definitely been a change in approach from both companies over the past year.

I’m really happy to even get a glimpse of this project! There’s a lot of incredible talent working on it, and I can’t wait to see what the creative teams come up with. A Spider-Man Noir/Golden Age Superman story sounds like a blast. We’ll have to wait a few months, but it’s great knowing that two special collections of Superman and Spider-Man stories are on their way. Hopefully, this collaboration is just the beginning, and Marvel and DC have even bigger plans for these iconic characters.
