As a Nintendo fan, I was really excited to hear that Nintendo is bringing Bandai Namco Studios Singapore into the family! Basically, Nintendo bought the studio, and it’s now officially called Nintendo Studios Singapore. Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, said they did this to make their development teams even stronger, which means hopefully even more amazing games are on the way! It’s awesome to see Nintendo investing in expanding its resources like this.
It’s not surprising that Nintendo is buying a stake in Bandai Namco Studios Singapore, as the studio previously contributed to popular Nintendo games like Splatoon 3. Nintendo announced it will purchase 80% of the studio’s shares on April 1, 2026, to boost its game development capabilities. The remaining shares will be bought later, once the studio is fully integrated and stable.
This news follows Nintendo’s recent announcement that they were establishing a business in Singapore. Called Nintendo Singapore, this move is designed to grow the company’s presence in Southeast Asia, a region Nintendo sees as having significant potential for growth.
In addition to launching a branch in Singapore, Nintendo announced it’s exploring the possibility of opening a similar office in Thailand to strengthen its presence in the region. The Singapore branch was established with a capital investment of SGD $8 million.
The news came on the same day Nintendo of America announced that Doug Bowser would be leaving his position as president and COO. Bowser will step down on December 31, 2025, and will be replaced by Devon Pritchard and Satoru Shibata, both experienced leaders in the gaming industry.
In a recent announcement about his retirement, Bowser shared that one of his first video game memories was playing the arcade game Donkey Kong. He expressed that he and his family have always loved Nintendo, and he feels incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have led Nintendo of America. He’s proud of the team’s achievements and the enjoyable experiences they’ve created for players.
It’s the right time for new leadership, and Devon has consistently proven herself. She’s a highly effective leader, and this promotion recognizes her hard work and valuable contributions to our company’s success. I’m confident she’ll lead us to continued growth and achievement.
