All the new anime for the Spring season have now premiered, and after looking at dozens of shows, one has clearly become the best. Several titles were particularly hyped beforehand—like Akane-banashi, a classic shonen anime, and Daemons of the Shadow Realm, which many are calling the next Fullmetal Alchemist. Overall, the Spring season has delivered some great new anime, but one show really shines above the rest.
Fans were eagerly awaiting the anime adaptation of Witch Hat Atelier, a popular series from Kodansha. It premiered on April 6, 2026, with a special two-episode launch by Bug Films and has quickly become a hit. Bug Films didn’t simply turn the manga into an anime; they beautifully brought the story to life, perfectly capturing its magical heart. The feeling of magic is central to the story, and the studio has carefully included details that make the anime truly enchanting.
Witch Hat Atelier Is the Most Enchanting Anime in Years

Witch Hat Atelier immediately immerses you in a world where magic is central to everyday life. But magic isn’t something everyone can do—it’s reserved for witches. The story follows Coco, a lively and inquisitive girl who desperately wants to experience magic for herself. She accidentally discovers how magic works—it’s created through drawing—and begins to copy the techniques, launching her into a surprising and enchanting adventure. Though it seems like a typical coming-of-age story about a young woman, what really shines is how well it brings these familiar elements to life.
I’ve been really impressed with Witch Hat Atelier. Bug Films has done an amazing job bringing the original story to life with beautiful animation and sound that just pulls you right in. Everything about this anime feels magical, and it’s setting up a really exciting adventure with both personal stories and intriguing mysteries, plus plenty of monsters and powerful enemies. Honestly, it feels like nothing else currently airing, which is a big part of why it’s quickly becoming a frontrunner for the best new anime of the year. It already had a dedicated following from the manga, but even just the first episode shows this anime is a serious contender, and at the very least, the highlight of the Spring season.
