Spy x Family Officially Loses No. 1 Spot in New Fall 2025 Anime Streaming Rankings

Early in 2025, fans were eagerly anticipating the next season of the popular action-comedy anime created by CloverWorks and Wit Studio. But surprisingly, a new anime series from Sunrise has recently become more popular, according to rankings from ABEMA TV.

I’m really excited to share some news from ABEMA, a streaming service that’s super popular in Japan and across Asia! They just dropped their mid-term rankings for Fall 2025, and it’s fascinating. They actually ranked shows in two ways – one list based on how many total views they got, and another based on all the comments! It’s cool to see what’s really grabbing people’s attention in both ways.

The anime My Status As an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s was the most viewed this week, topping the charts at number one. Spy x Family Season 3 came in second, followed by My Gift: Lv. 9999 Unlimited Gacha, A Gatherer’s Adventure in Isekai, and May I Ask One Final Thing in third, fourth, and fifth place, respectively.

The anime My Status As an Assassin recently gained attention by surpassing Spy x Family in popularity. The story centers around Akira Oda, a seemingly ordinary high school student who feels overlooked. Everything changes when his class is transported to a world where everyone has unique abilities and stats. In this new world, Oda discovers he’s an incredibly powerful assassin, far stronger than his peers.

As he searched for answers, he unexpectedly found himself caught up in a plot involving the king. Viewers on ABEMA not only enjoyed the exciting action sequences but also praised the main character’s surprising inner power, which, like many characters in this type of story, fully develops thanks to his unique situation.

The popular series Spy x Family began as a manga, first released in March 2019, and was later adapted into an anime television show in April 2022. The story centers around a highly skilled spy, known as “Agent Twilight,” who is tasked with preventing a war between Westalis and Ostonia.

To create a cover story, he pretends to have a family, adopting a remarkably intelligent five-year-old girl named Anya – who secretly has telepathic abilities – and marrying Yor, a woman leading a dangerous double life as a notorious assassin known as the “Thorn Princess.” Even though they often clash and misunderstand each other, the Forgers consistently have each other’s backs and support one another in everything they do.
