In the recent plotline of “Spy x Family,” readers were introduced to Hemlock, a fellow assassin from The Garden who works alongside Yor. Simultaneously, Yor maintains her secret identity as part of the Forger family. Hemlock made his debut in Chapter 115 of the manga, marking the beginning of delving deeper into this enigmatic organization that remains an urban myth to many. The members of The Garden jeopardize their lives daily to safeguard their nation’s tranquility. Known for their exceptional skills, these assassins are amongst the best in the world, and few can rival them. Yor serves as a testament to this, with her strength leaving even Loid, the top agent of WISE, in awe. However, although they share the same objective, not all members of The Garden necessarily get along harmoniously.
It’s particularly applicable to Hemlock, who has been notably antagonistic towards Yor since his debut. He offers to tag along on the mission, but eventually reveals his true intentions by confronting her during a perilous operation. He harbored the belief that Yor had grown complacent after getting married. Moreover, he maintained that if Yor is supposed to be a skilled assassin, she should have no place in society. As the team arrived at their destination before Yor could respond, Hemlock seized an opportune moment to attempt to eliminate Yor.
Yor Motivates Hemlock to Get Stronger, but He’s Still More Confused Than Ever

Hemlock strongly adheres to his convictions and despises the notion of assassins coexisting within society, considering himself among them. He doubts their need for affection or joy. His irritation is evident as he resents Yor’s influence on Gympie, encouraging him to seek a romantic partner. Unyielding in his stance, Hemlock eventually forces Yor into a confrontation. In the heat of the battle, Hemlock confesses to himself that he once admired her, but now, with her transformation, he finds himself feeling disillusioned and enraged.

In the course of the skirmish, Yor mainly reacted defensively and sought ways to pacify him. But when Hemlock threatened her brother and kin, she lost her cool and demonstrated her hidden might, defeating him with surprising ease. In Chapter 118, following the mission’s completion, Hemlock departs from Yor and Matthew. He ponders himself and acknowledges that his commitment to solitude may not be sufficient. At a certain juncture, he even contemplates whether marriage could augment his power. Additionally, he starts to question his grandfather, whom he had always revered and obeyed without question.
Although Hemlock taught his grandson the importance of being independent, he comes to understand that his grandfather wouldn’t have had a family if he hadn’t married. As he embarks on a journey on foot, filled with mixed emotions, Yor grapples with her own personal matters. Unbeknownst to Hemlock, his inquiries have prompted Yor to reconsider her marriage. Matthew suggested she end the marriage if she has doubts, as it might spare everyone from potential pain.
