Square Enix, famous for RPGs like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts, is giving away one of its games for free to some players. While the company is known for its blockbuster titles, it also has a number of lesser-known RPG series that deserve attention.
When people talk about the best RPGs from Square Enix, the Deus Ex series often gets left out. That’s partly because the last game, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, came out in 2016 and there haven’t been any new releases since. If you’re unfamiliar with this cyberpunk action RPG series, Amazon Prime subscribers can now play it for free.

Amazon Prime members can get a free PC code for the game Deus Ex: Mankind Divided thanks to Prime Gaming. While the RPG is also available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the free code is only for the PC version, which is standard for Prime Gaming promotions.
The Deus Ex series began in 2000 with the original Deus Ex, developed by Ion Storm and published by Eidos Interactive (later acquired by Square Enix). The game received a score of 90 on Metacritic and is still considered one of the best games and RPGs of the year and decade. A sequel, Deus Ex: Invisible War, followed in 2003, also created by the same team, and earned an 80 on Metacritic. The slight dip in scores may have contributed to the long wait until the next installment in 2011, which ultimately served as a reboot of the series.
The game Deus Ex: Human Revolution revitalized the series, earning a Metacritic score of 90 and marking a shift in development to Eidos Montreal. It was highly acclaimed, considered one of the best games of its year and a standout RPG of the 2010s. However, a sequel, the free RPG Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, didn’t arrive for seven years. Unfortunately, like its predecessor, Mankind Divided received a lower score (83 on Metacritic) and appears to have stalled the series’ momentum.
Once you claim this Square Enix RPG for free, you own it forever, even if you cancel your Amazon Prime subscription. This is different from services like PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass, where games become unavailable if you stop paying for your subscription.
