Be warned, this discusses major plot points from the first season of The Madison. With the season finale of The Madison now available, viewers are eager to know what the ending means for one particular character, as their fate was left unresolved.
The first season of Taylor Sheridan’s latest Western drama has finished with the release of its second part on Paramount+. Called The Madison, the show features a star-studded cast including Michelle Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell, Will Arnett, Matthew Fox, Beau Garrett, and Patrick J. Adams. The story centers on the wealthy Clyburn family from New York, who move to Montana’s Madison River Valley hoping to rebuild their lives after a devastating loss.
In a recent interview with TVInsider, actress Garrett, who plays Abigail Reese – the daughter of Pfeiffer’s character Stacy Clyburn – talked about the dramatic ending of the season. She explained Stacy’s emotional state and hinted at what viewers might see from her character in season two. The season finale left fans on the edge of their seats, showing Stacy beside Preston’s grave with a gun. Cade, played by Kevin Zegers, discovered her there and worried she might harm herself.
Abigail worries that Stacy doesn’t actually want to live anymore. Her mother seems very unstable, which is frightening, and Abigail isn’t sure Stacy truly believes she’s alright. Abigail doesn’t think Stacy is coping well with the loss and isn’t fully processing what’s happened.
If you’re grieving the loss of someone you deeply loved and feel like life has lost its meaning, it’s understandable to feel overwhelmed and unsafe. She’s incredibly frightened and struggling to cope.

Pfeiffer and Russell discuss how Stacy’s worsening mental health could bring even more hardship to her family. Pfeiffer explains that the second season focuses on the aftermath of losing everything and the struggle to survive, while Russell adds that it’s uncertain if Stacy will make it through. Pfeiffer then elaborates on this point.
This family is falling apart, and it’s unclear how they’ll manage to stay together. Stacy is devastated by the loss of her husband and is struggling to cope with her grief. Their lives are so intertwined, especially at a time when everyone is still discovering who they are, making it hard to see where one person’s identity ends and another’s begins.
Despite the overall tragic storyline, the actors mentioned that season 2 of The Madison includes plenty of humor to offer viewers some lighter moments. While it’s still unclear what will happen to Stacy, creator Taylor Sheridan often has his key characters face difficult circumstances, as seen in Yellowstone and its earlier stories, 1883 and 1923.
The Madison season 1 is available to stream on Paramount+ now.
