You might have noticed earlier when reading that its modkit necessitates nearly a full terabyte of storage, Stalker 2 received a significantly large update today. GSC refers to it as the “Guns and Looting update,” which I believe understates it slightly, and we’re calling it patch 1.5. It’s quite substantial, to put it mildly.
they move around, pursue objectives, engage in conflicts, meet untimely ends, and sometimes involve players in their chaotic lives.
The vital element that gives the Zone its liveliness has been inoperable since the release of Stalker 2, as GSC has been preoccupied with addressing countless other issues and the idiosyncrasies of Unreal Engine 5. Previously, all Stalker games were powered by GSC’s proprietary X-Ray Engine.
Now, the studio claims to have cracked it. “Life in the Zone is now simulated for all characters, not just those in the player’s view,” says item #1 on the Steam patch notes. “Characters continue to live their lives and pursue their goals in the Zone until they meet their end.”
In real life, encountering strangers is an ordinary occurrence, but it’s sensational for stalker-obsessed individuals. As characters in the game world go about their tasks, it’s now feasible that you could meet them at one point, then part ways, only to unexpectedly run into them again in a completely different place later on, due to a unique intersection of your (real) objectives and their (simulated) objectives.

I haven’t played the updated version of the game (I needed to remove Stalker 2 to make room for other files on my computer), but if it functions correctly, it appears that Stalker 2 has become a true Stalker game at this point.
In simpler terms, the developers have fixed an issue where new characters would suddenly appear near the player. Now, if you clear out a hideout, those enemies won’t reappear right after, and the game’s artificial intelligence director will no longer spawn characters at the edge of your view. Instead, they will respawn further away from you while still maintaining the game’s overall population.
This update is fantastic, and it gets even better when you delve into the features that earned it the nickname “Guns and Looting”. Additionally, as always, there are numerous bug fixes (details in the link provided). Apart from the AI enhancements, Patch 1.5 introduces a new rifle, pistol, anomaly called the “Water electric tornado”, and the option to dismantle mutants for loot, much like in the original Stalkers. Happy hunting for pseudodog tails, stalkers!
