Recently, a lot of Star Wars fans have been talking about a movie that was planned but never made. Director Steven Soderbergh was going to direct a script by Scott Z. Burns (who worked on Rogue One), and it would have continued the story of Ben Solo (Adam Driver’s character) after The Rise of Skywalker. This news sparked a huge reaction from fans and led to a lot of discussion about the future of Star Wars films.
The biggest disappointment of the cancelled Ben Solo movie wasn’t just losing a story, but missing a unique opportunity for Star Wars to truly explore how someone could find redemption after falling to the dark side and return to the light.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I honestly think combining these two popular ideas for a movie is brilliant. It’s just too good of a concept to pass up, especially when the opportunity is right there! It could be a truly spectacular film.
Star Wars’ Kylo Ren & Darth Vader Movies Can Be One Movie

As a huge Star Wars fan, I – and a lot of others – have always dreamed of seeing a movie focused on Kylo Ren and his journey as Ben Solo. And honestly, the idea of a Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker film still feels like something we deserve! It’s a shame we might not get both. I remember how much the sequel trilogy showed Kylo constantly trying to connect with Vader’s legacy, almost like he was looking up to the dark side power of Anakin. Of course, by the end, after Ben’s redemption and helping Rey defeat Palpatine, he’d moved past all that, but it was a really compelling part of his story.
Any movie continuing Ben Solo’s story needs to explain how he survived falling into the abyss on Exegol. He seemingly died giving Rey the energy to come back to life through their Force connection, and his death coincided with his mother, Leia’s, passing. This created a complicated ending for the Skywalker family, especially when Rey later took the Skywalker name. A new movie could easily resolve this by showing Leia’s death somehow giving Ben a spark of life. This would allow Anakin Skywalker’s spirit to connect with Ben through the Force, giving them a chance to have a meaningful conversation and offering a path to continue Ben’s story.
We envision a story where bringing Kylo Ren (Ben Solo) back to the light would naturally connect to the Darth Vader story fans have always wanted to see. The idea is that Anakin Skywalker could guide his grandson back from the darkness, forcing him to confront Anakin’s own difficult past as Darth Vader – a time when even in the darkness, a glimmer of light remained. This approach has been successful in Star Wars comics, and it would enhance the films by linking those darker Vader stories to Ben Solo’s redemption. The positive reception to the Ahsoka episode featuring Hayden Christensen as Anakin – where he guides Ahsoka through a Force-fueled journey into her past – proves that this kind of mystical storytelling truly connects with audiences.
Kylo Ren vs. Vader: The Fight Fans Want to See

It wouldn’t make sense to change the rules of reality if we didn’t deliver on the ultimate fan-service battle: Kylo Ren versus Darth Vader. Any storyline that explores the inner conflicts of both Ben Solo and Anakin Skywalker needs to, at some point, feature a confrontation between their dark side selves. Otherwise, the whole premise feels pointless.
A fight between Darth Vader and Kylo Ren wouldn’t be the whole story – we’d also see Ben Solo and Anakin Skywalker face off. Both Hayden Christensen and Adam Driver deserve a chance to truly showcase their skills. Perhaps the series could raise the standard for action sequences with a dynamic duel where both characters switch between the light and dark sides, desperately trying to restore or destroy balance.
This project is exactly what Star Wars needs right now: large-scale action for the big screen, built around two well-loved characters who are guaranteed to draw an audience. Despite its potential for spectacle, it would remain a character-driven story with a small, talented cast, perfect for a respected director without extensive experience in blockbuster filmmaking. The concept is appealing and has a natural endpoint: it would seamlessly lead into a future movie starring Adam Driver’s Ben Solo, connecting his story with Rey’s new Jedi Order and setting the stage for their eventual reunion.
Star Wars films and TV series can be streamed on Disney+.
