Two older Star Wars games have suddenly been removed from sale on Steam. One of the games is still available on current PlayStation and Xbox consoles, so most players won’t be affected. However, the other game was only released on PC, meaning it’s now impossible to buy digitally unless you can find an old physical copy from the late 1990s.
Let’s start with the unexpected removal of a game from Steam. Disney recently delisted Star Wars Rebellion, a game originally released in 1998, without any prior notice. Developed by Coolhand Interactive and published by LucasArts, this real-time strategy game was only ever available on PC and hasn’t been significantly updated or re-released in the 28 years since its launch. The likely reason for this, and its removal from sale, is its generally poor reception – it currently has a 50% score on GameRankings.
Second Delisted Star Wars Game
Another classic Star Wars game has been removed from digital stores: Star Wars: Dark Forces. Originally released for MS-DOS in 1995 and later for PlayStation in 1996, it was recently brought to modern consoles. While its removal from Steam is still significant, it’s not as surprising as the delisting of Star Wars: Rebellion because it’s available on newer platforms.

When Star Wars: Dark Forces first came out on MS-DOS, it got mixed reviews. However, players who remember the PlayStation 1 version might recall it had a lot of technical problems and didn’t run very well. Fortunately, those issues have been fixed in the game’s current versions.
As a big Star Wars fan, I was pretty surprised to see two of the games suddenly disappear from Steam! It wasn’t just those two, though – fifteen games were pulled! What’s even more frustrating is that Disney didn’t give any heads-up about it, and they haven’t said anything since. Hopefully, they’ll bring all the games back eventually, but right now, there’s no way to know for sure.
