Star Wars Gets Beautifully Recreated With Cardboard on YouTube

Even though the original movie remains a sci-fi classic, YouTuber Zach King has created a fun new version. He rebuilt scenes, props, and costumes entirely from cardboard, and you can watch the surprisingly impressive result online for free, just in time for May the Fourth celebrations.

The complete fan film is available to watch for free online and has already received over 167,000 views. Director King worked with friends to create this new take on Star Wars, featuring actors Randall Park and Jamie Costa. King also stars as Luke Skywalker, and the team managed to film the entire project in just five days, following only two weeks of preparation. They built all the sets using cardboard, keeping the production quick and efficient.

Star Wars Gets Reimagined in a Really Fun New Way

The project really took shape when we began discussing how to honor Star Wars while staying true to its original feel,” King explained. “The original films were made with limited resources, so we asked ourselves, what if we intentionally created a similar challenge? That’s how we came up with the idea of building everything out of cardboard and filming it all in just five days.

The YouTuber explained that not everything they’d originally planned ended up in the final video. Working with a short deadline and cardboard as the main material meant difficult choices had to be made. They wished they’d had time to build larger sets and more detailed environments, but those limitations actually sparked creativity. It pushed them to think like the filmmakers they were inspired by and find solutions on the fly.

Fans Are Loving the Cardboard Recreation

The initial reaction to this new version has been very positive, suggesting we’ll likely see more like it soon. King has hinted at a cardboard version of another popular item, and it’s possible other franchises could get a similar treatment. However, with so much potential still available within the Star Wars universe, King and his team are currently focused on expanding that line.

This fan-made film arrives right before the official return of Star Wars to cinemas this month. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu will be in theaters on May 22nd, making it the first Star Wars movie released there since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. With Star Wars series also available on Disney+, fans have plenty to enjoy. And for those wanting even more, this new video from King is a really fun watch, particularly if you love the original Star Wars film.
