Star Wars Has Already Given Din Djarin A Failed Mission In The Mandalorian And Grogu

While The Mandalorian and Grogu is poised to be the next major installment in the Star Wars universe, it faces some challenges. Recent Star Wars films and series haven’t consistently pleased fans since Disney acquired the franchise in 2012, often receiving mixed or negative reviews. The Mandalorian series itself was a notable exception, though opinions on its third season were more divided. Despite this, The Mandalorian and Grogu still has a lot to prove to win over audiences.

This new Star Wars movie is the first in almost seven years, following The Rise of Skywalker, which many consider the weakest film in the series. As a result, it faces high expectations. Early concerns about a lack of a strong villain in The Mandalorian and Grogu have now been compounded by the trailer, which suggests the main characters, Din Djarin and Grogu, are heading towards a mission that is destined to fail, with no possibility of a different outcome.

Colonel Ward Tells Din Djarin They’re Trying To Prevent A War

I’m really excited to see where The Mandalorian and Grogu story goes next! While a lot is still unknown, we know Din Djarin and Grogu will be working with the New Republic on special assignments, just like the end of season 3 hinted at. It doesn’t seem like Din will get involved in politics – that’s just not his thing – but I expect he’ll definitely be helping the New Republic fight off what’s left of the Empire and anyone still loyal to them.

The trailer hints that the Empire is still a threat. We see Din Djarin and Grogu watching stormtroopers, and Din interacts with characters who mention preventing another war. However, the idea of preventing war suggests this mission is destined to fail, no matter what happens in the new season.

The Sequels Have Already Confirmed That Another War Comes

The new movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, takes place between season 3 of The Mandalorian and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, meaning a war is inevitable. Considering what we see at the start of The Force Awakens – the First Order already having a lot of power – they must have been secretly growing their strength during this time. It wouldn’t make sense for them to appear so powerful out of nowhere, so they were likely operating in the background, even though we haven’t seen that directly in the Star Wars stories yet.

It now seems clear that Din Djarin, Grogu, Colonel Ward, and their allies in The Mandalorian and Grogu are destined to lose. This is disheartening for the story, and it creates a challenge for the filmmakers. They need to find a way to keep the plot engaging and portray Din Djarin and Grogu as heroic, even though the audience knows they ultimately won’t succeed.

How Will The Mandalorian Work With The Sequels?

The recent issues with The Mandalorian and Grogu highlight a bigger problem facing the Star Wars franchise right now. It’s not just The Mandalorian or its related movie that has to deal with the fact that the future is already somewhat set in stone. Any story taking place during this time period, including the upcoming season of Ahsoka, will face the same challenge. Star Wars has dealt with prequels before, but this feels especially difficult given where these stories fit in the timeline.

One reason for this is that many of the follow-up stories haven’t been very well-received. It’s unfortunate because shows like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka have introduced some compelling storylines, but they’re restricted in what they can achieve. The direction of the overall Star Wars galaxy seems to be predetermined for the near future, which limits their impact.

There’s a possibility The Mandalorian and Grogu will overcome this challenge. Star Wars often uses clever explanations to revise established storylines, even if fans don’t always love them, so the upcoming movie might find a way around the issue. However, it currently looks like Din Djarin and Grogu will start the film on a mission that’s set up to fail, potentially leading to a story with a similar outcome.
