Grogu has come a long way from the vulnerable child we first met in The Mandalorian. After training with Luke Skywalker (as seen in The Book of Boba Fett) and learning the ways of the Mandalorian, Season 3 saw him bravely fight his enemy, Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), and his powerful Stormtrooper forces. This was a major accomplishment, especially considering Grogu’s Force abilities were crucial to helping Mando and Bo-Katan Kryze survive their final showdown with Gideon.

Beware, spoilers ahead! In The Mandalorian and Grogu, Grogu’s abilities really shine. Din Djarin gets captured by the bounty hunter Embo and turned over to the Hutt Twins, who are angry that he didn’t deliver their nephew, Rotta the Hutt (played by Jeremy Allen White). While Grogu escapes capture, he has to team up with a group of Anzellan mechanics to travel to the planet Nal Hutta and rescue Mando. Things go wrong quickly when they discover their escape ship is comically too small for Mando, and even worse when Din Djarin is bitten by a poisonous Dragonsnake during a fight. The Anzellans go to find help, leaving Grogu behind to protect the unconscious Mando, get him to safety, and help him recover.

The Nal Hutta storyline has Grogu facing numerous challenges, including combat, building shelter, and forming connections with the local inhabitants. He even learns to create medicine to heal Din. This solo adventure for Grogu is a highlight of The Mandalorian and Grogu, and by the time he rejoins Mando and Rotta, he’s proven his capabilities, even using the Force to save Rotta’s life. The story effectively demonstrates Grogu’s growing powers and introduces exciting new possibilities for the future of Star Wars.

How Powerful Is Grogu Compared to Other Star Wars Heroes?

Grogu, once known as “Baby Yoda,” is growing into a powerful hero in the Star Wars universe. But how does his strength and journey stack up against those of Luke Skywalker and his mentor, Master Yoda?

We’ll likely never fully understand Luke Skywalker’s potential. He grew up during a time when the Jedi were nearly wiped out, and his natural abilities went untapped until he was older, only becoming aware of the Force in A New Hope. There are hints he was strong with the Force even as a child – Maul sensed him on Tatooine during his duel with Obi-Wan in Star Wars Rebels – but we’ll never know how powerful he could have become with proper training. Considering he was Anakin Skywalker’s son, Luke clearly had immense potential, and it’s fascinating to imagine what he could have achieved, perhaps even forming a strong connection with his twin sister, Leia, through the Force.

Despite everything, Grogu has already shown remarkable potential at a very young age, during a time when the Jedi Order is nearly gone and largely a thing of the past. Luke Skywalker was perfectly positioned to guide him, stepping into the same mentoring role Obi-Wan once played – offering a short but valuable period of training. However, Luke’s reaction to Grogu suggests he believes the young alien could eventually become even more powerful than he is.

The idea of ‘one day’ is central to understanding Din Djarin’s worries in The Mandalorian and Grogu. He struggles with his relatively short lifespan compared to Grogu, and what the future holds for his adopted son after he’s gone. Yoda is a good example to consider: his centuries of life allowed him to become a powerful and unmatched master of the Force. While known for his lightsaber skills, especially earlier in his life, Yoda’s greatest strengths were his wisdom and ability to maintain balance, developed through years of meditation and connection with the Force. He wasn’t a physically imposing fighter, but his mastery of the Force allowed him to accomplish incredible feats, like deflecting Force lightning and moving objects much larger than himself. Although Grogu has shown impressive Force abilities, they aren’t yet at Yoda’s level.

Since the prequel movies came out, Yoda has become a surprisingly tragic character. Despite being wise, kind, and noble, he clearly suffered from excessive pride. He led the Jedi into becoming soldiers for the Republic, and he completely failed to notice a powerful Sith Lord, Darth Sidious, operating right under his nose. Now, Grogu is being trained by Din Djarin, a skilled bounty hunter, while also developing his Force abilities. Characters like Ahsoka Tano have shown that you don’t need the Jedi Order to become a strong and heroic Force user. In many ways, Grogu already has more power and better training than Luke Skywalker did at the same age, and potentially even more than Yoda received. There’s no evidence to suggest young Yoda faced the same kinds of challenges or defeated the same level of enemies that Grogu is currently overcoming.

Grogu is still learning, but he’s quickly becoming one of the most powerful characters in the Star Wars universe. Now, fans are wondering when and how the story might show us an older Grogu, and fully demonstrate just how strong he’s become.
