As a huge fan of Star Wars Jedi, I was so excited to hear that Lucasfilm is planning more stories with Cal Kestis! It came up during a Disney discussion about theme park attractions – GameRant caught it – and when asked directly, a Disney/Lucasfilm rep basically confirmed it! They said, “Never say never,” and pointed out they already have his lightsaber in the parks, hinting that we’ll definitely be seeing more of Cal’s adventures soon. I can’t wait!
The representative’s wording doesn’t actually suggest a new Star Wars Jedi game is being developed. Because the Star Wars universe is so vast, plans involving various characters are frequently considered across different media.
A report surfaced in January suggesting that a new game in the Star Wars Jedi series was being developed, potentially releasing later this year. This information came from Tim Gettys on the Kinda Funny Gamescast podcast.
During the podcast, Gettys mentioned they were brainstorming games that wouldn’t appear on a particular list, and considered the reception of the previous game. They believe the upcoming Jedi Survivor sequel is likely to be released this year, though not guaranteed. They envision a potential announcement in May and a release in September.
Other commentators noted that the previous Star Wars Jedi games—Fallen Order and Survivor—were both revealed and launched within the same year. According to sources, the upcoming third game may follow the same schedule. “I’ve heard some things,” said Gettys.
Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment haven’t said much about the future of the Star Wars Jedi series since releasing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor in 2023. If a new project is underway, it suggests Respawn is aiming for a development timeline of around three years. It’s also important to remember that the studio has experienced several staff departures recently, including the exit of director Stig Asmussen.
The first game in the series, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, came out in 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a version for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S following in 2021. The story is set between the end of the Clone Wars and the beginning of A New Hope. Players control Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan who survived the execution of Order 66 and is now hiding, working as a ship dismantler to conceal his identity.
The story begins when Cal is discovered to be strong with the Force, forcing him to flee as the Empire’s ruthless Inquisitors pursue him.
The sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, picks up a few years after the first game, with Cal Kestis now fighting the Galactic Empire on his own. When a mission doesn’t go as planned, he reconnects with former allies and unexpectedly discovers a potential path to ending the Empire’s rule over the galaxy.
