Fans with PlayStation 5 are excited for the April 7th release of Starfield, and early pre-order numbers look promising for both Bethesda and Microsoft. The game is currently near the top of the PlayStation Store’s pre-order list – we saw it in second place between 007: First Light and Pragmata, but in some areas it’s already the number one pre-ordered title.
According to a report from Fextralife, the Premium Edition of Starfield is currently the best-selling game on the US PlayStation Store. It’s followed by 007: First Light and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. The standard edition of Starfield is also performing well at number four, suggesting strong pre-order numbers for the game. Starfield is also a top seller on the PlayStation Store in the UK.
Okay, so I was stoked to hear that Starfield is finally coming to PS5! The standard version will be $49.99, which is cool, but the Premium Edition is $69.99. It’s a bit pricier, but it comes with the new Terran Armada DLC, plus the Shattered Space DLC that already came out. You also get a cool skin pack, a digital art book, the game’s soundtrack, and 1,000 Creation Credits. If you just get the base game, don’t worry – you can upgrade to the Premium Edition later for $24.99. Seems like a good deal if you want all the extras!
On April 7th, coinciding with the launch of the game on PS5, two big things are coming to the game: the Terran Armada expansion and a free update called Free Lanes. The Free Lanes update introduces X-Tech, a new resource that lets players try for powerful Legendary Perks on their weapons. Planetary Outposts are also getting improvements, and players will have a new companion: the Milliewhale pet.
The upcoming Terran Armada expansion will introduce a new storyline centered around a mysterious new enemy: the Terran Armada itself. This faction is made up of people from the United Colonies and Freestar Collective who vanished during the Colony War. They believe they are the rightful inheritors of Earth’s legacy. The Terran Armada boasts a powerful, technologically advanced military, primarily composed of robotic soldiers. However, not all of its members will be enemies – players will encounter Delta, a new companion who brings a complex moral dimension to the team.
According to lead creative producer Timothy Lamb, the upcoming Free Lanes update will significantly improve the game, but players shouldn’t expect it to feel like a completely new game – a “Starfield 2.0,” as some might hope. Lamb explained that the update focuses on refining existing systems and adding content based on community feedback, resulting in what he believes is the definitive version of Starfield. It’s a series of improvements, not a full overhaul.
You can still play Starfield on PC and Xbox Series X/S. If you’d like to learn more, you can read our reviews of both the original game and the Shattered Space expansion.
