Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel have both faced some challenges recently. Colbert’s *The Late Show* ended its run on CBS earlier this year, signaling a big change for both him and late-night television. And just this month, Jimmy Kimmel’s show was temporarily put on hold after some controversial comments. Despite these difficulties, the two hosts have supported each other, and their friendly relationship seems set to continue, which is great to see.
Now that *Jimmy Kimmel Live!* has returned after a break, ABC has announced the show’s guest lineup for the week of September 29th to October 3rd. The show will be filming in Brooklyn, and a number of big names will be appearing, including Stephen Colbert. Colbert will be on *Kimmel* on Tuesday, September 30th, along with Kumail Nanjiani and musical guest Reneé Rapp. Here’s the full list of guests:
- Monday, Sept. 29: Ryan Reynolds, Josh Johnson and Musical Guest Public Enemy
- Tuesday, Sept. 30: Stephen Colbert, Kumail Nanjiani and Musical Guest Reneé Rapp
- Wednesday Oct. 1: Emily Blunt, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Musical Guest Geese
- Thursday, Oct. 2: Jeremy Allen White, Bruce Springsteen and Musical Guest Living Colour 4
- Friday, Oct. 3: Tom Hanks, Spike Lee
Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert are likely to have a full-on conversation this Tuesday night, and I can already picture how it will go. They’ll almost certainly talk about the challenges they’ve both faced recently and how those situations became national news. While it’s sure to be funny, I also expect some serious moments. Given how much they’ve supported each other, I wouldn’t be surprised if they both express their gratitude.
When CBS announced the end of *The Late Show* in July, Jimmy Kimmel publicly disagreed with the decision. He also supported Stephen Colbert, even campaigning for Colbert to win an Emmy despite being a nominee himself – and Colbert did win. Similarly, Colbert praised Kimmel when ABC temporarily replaced his show with another program.
More on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Jimmy Kimmel came back to ABC after a brief suspension and actually got his highest ratings ever. Looking back, his opening monologue seems even funnier now.
Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show was temporarily taken off the air after the head of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) hinted that ABC could lose its broadcasting license because of comments Kimmel made about the person who attacked Charlie Kirk. Around the same time, two major broadcasting companies, Nexstar and Sinclair, also stopped airing the show on their local stations. Reports suggest some Disney leaders didn’t agree with the suspension, which was ordered by CEO Bob Iger and entertainment chief Dana Walden. Kimmel and his superiors eventually talked things over, and his show was brought back.
CBS said the decision regarding Stephen Colbert’s show was due to financial concerns, and recent reports confirm the company hasn’t been doing well. However, some experts believe there were other reasons behind the cancellation. The decision followed a $16 million settlement Paramount (CBS’s parent company) made with former President Donald Trump, which Colbert had publicly commented on. This settlement was also seen as the last major item to resolve before the merger between Paramount and Skydance could move forward.

YouTube TV: $62.99 a Month for the First Five Months
As a huge fan of late-night shows, I was excited to see that you can now watch *Jimmy Kimmel Live!* on YouTube TV, along with all the usual live news and sports. They’re running a special right now – you can get five months for $62.99 a month, but the price will go up to $82.99 after that, so it’s a good time to check it out if you’re considering it!
Considering all the recent changes in late-night television, it’s fitting that Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert will be interviewing each other. It will be interesting to see how their friendly relationship – which they share with other hosts like Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon – comes across when Colbert appears on *Jimmy Kimmel Live!* this week. The show airs every weeknight at 11:35 p.m. Eastern Time as part of the 2025 TV lineup, and you can also watch it with a YouTube TV subscription.
