Who’s behind The Mist remake?
Stephen King’s work is constantly being adapted for the screen, with three of his novels becoming films in 2025 alone: The Monkey, The Long Walk, and The Life of Chuck – all recommended viewing. While remakes of his stories haven’t always been successful (notable examples include The Shining, Pet Sematary, Firestarter, and Carrie), Mike Flanagan has earned a reputation for creating high-quality adaptations of King’s books, both for film and television. He’s now planning a remake of The Mist, which would be the third time this particular story has been brought to life on screen.
A strange, dense fog descends upon a small town in Maine, and terrifying creatures begin to emerge, attacking the residents. A group of people take refuge in a local grocery store, but as time passes, the situation inside becomes as dangerous as the threat outside. With society breaking down, some survivors show courage and compassion, while others succumb to fear and mob mentality, becoming just as dangerous as the monsters in the fog.
What ending will Will The Mist remake use?
I first encountered this story in Stephen King’s Skeleton Crew, and it’s been adapted twice – as a movie in 2007 and a TV series in 2017. Honestly, the 2007 film is what really stuck with me. It had such a powerfully dark and disturbing ending, and I actually think it improved on the book! That’s why I’m a little skeptical about this new remake – it feels like we don’t really need another version when the existing film is already so strong.
The Directors pedigree in Stephen King films…..
Mike Flanagan has previously directed adaptations of Stephen King’s work, including Gerald’s Game, the sequel to The Shining called Doctor Sleep, and Life of Chuck. More recently, he directed a limited series based on Carrie and has been working on a TV series adaptation of The Dark Tower.
Mike Flanagan is directing a new “The Exorcist” movie with Scarlett Johansson, scheduled to come out in 2027.
