Sending Steve Rogers back in time with the Infinity Stones in Avengers: Endgame was a missed chance, and Avengers: Doomsday can now fix that. Although Endgame seemed like the conclusive end to Captain America’s story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s clear now that wasn’t the case for the iconic hero.
Chris Evans is returning as Steve Rogers in Phase 6 of the MCU, and evidence suggests he’ll be a central figure in Avengers: Doomsday. This opens up exciting possibilities for his character’s story, particularly concerning events that happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but weren’t directly shown on screen. This could be key to the fight against Doctor Doom.
Steve Rogers Gave The Soul Stone Back To Red Skull
Steve Rogers put all six Infinity Stones back where they originally came from, before the Avengers traveled through time to collect them. This means Captain America likely had a secret meeting with his old enemy, Red Skull, as seen in Captain America: The First Avenger. We learned in Avengers: Infinity War that Red Skull had been living on the planet Vormir, guarding the Soul Stone.
It would have been really interesting to see this meeting depicted in Avengers: Endgame, primarily to witness Steve Rogers’ reaction to learning Red Skull was still alive and now guarded the Soul Stone. While Red Skull seems to have moved on from his past, it makes you wonder if seeing Captain America again would stir up feelings he hasn’t felt in decades.
As a longtime Marvel fan, I was initially disappointed we didn’t see Captain America finally confront Red Skull again in Avengers: Endgame. It felt like a missed opportunity, and I figured that was just something we’d have to imagine ourselves. But the Disney+ series Doomsday cleverly revisits Steve Rogers’ time-traveling adventures, and it’s now clear that the possibility of that reunion isn’t off the table after all – which is a fantastic development for fans like me!
How Avengers: Doomsday Can Include Red Skull
If Ross Marquand were to return as Red Skull in a potential Doomsday film, Marvel could easily integrate him into the story. They could begin by showing Steve Rogers returning the Infinity Stones to their original locations, then transition into scenes of Steve enjoying life with his family.
Marvel could also team up Red Skull with Doctor Doom. Similar to Captain America, Red Skull could travel through time to find Doom. The two have a history of working together in the comics, and bringing that to the big screen could create a powerful alliance of villains in a potential Avengers: Doomsday movie, giving the heroes a truly massive threat to face.
