The renowned composer John Williams will create the music for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming movie about UFOs, which doesn’t have a title yet.
This project will be the 30th time director Spielberg and composer John Williams have worked together. Williams’s music has been a memorable part of many of Spielberg’s most famous films.
The announcement was made at a celebratory event in New York honoring the composer’s career. While Williams couldn’t attend, Juilliard School president Damian Woetzel shared that he was in Los Angeles collaborating with Steven Spielberg on a new film – a project everyone was excited about.
These two have worked together on films ever since “The Sugarland Express” came out in 1974. Since then, Williams has composed memorable scores for famous movies like “Jaws,” “Jurassic Park,” “Schindler’s List,” and “Saving Private Ryan.”
Williams previously composed the music for Spielberg’s other films about UFOs, including Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
This news is a delightful surprise from the celebrated movie composer, who is 93 years old. He had previously suggested he would retire after scoring the 2022 film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

So, Williams had initially suggested he might be stepping back from film scoring, but clarified it wasn’t a complete retirement – he’d still consider projects that really grabbed him. And it looks like working with that director he’s collaborated with for years has definitely done the trick! He’s back, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
Not much is known about Steven Spielberg’s next movie yet. The story will center around UFOs, and it’s being called a completely original film event. Filming finished earlier this year, and the movie is expected to come out in June 2026.
I’m really excited about this new movie! They’ve got an amazing cast lined up – Josh O’Connor, Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Wyatt Russell are all going to be leading the film. Plus, David Koepp, who’s worked with Spielberg a bunch of times before, wrote the script, so I have a feeling it’s going to be fantastic.
