Xbox recently showcased RGG Studio’s upcoming game, Stranger Than Heaven, giving viewers a closer look at its story and characters. During the presentation, executive director Masayoshi Yokoyama also revealed that the game will be released this winter on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PlayStation 5, and will be available on Game Pass starting on day one.
The story follows Makoto Daito (Yu Shirota), a young man of Japanese and American heritage who flees unkindness in San Francisco in 1915 and journeys to his mother’s native Japan. He travels on a ship run by a smuggler named Orpheus (played by Snoop Dogg) and meets Yu Shinjo (Dean Fujioka) during the voyage. When they reach Japan, they both disembark, but their lives quickly take very different directions.
Makoto relies on strength, while Yu is a strategist with ambitions to change Japan. Makoto starts as a supporting character alongside Orpheus, gradually proving himself before reconnecting with Yu later in Osaka. As they pursue their goals, they face increasing conflict with powerful groups like the Yakuza, the Italian Mafia, and even elements within the Japanese government. The story also features a memorable cast, including Tori Kelly as Suzy and the artist Ado.
The game begins in Kokura, Fukuoka, a lively city full of entertainment and opportunities, featuring fun side activities like card games and arm-wrestling. Players then move to Kure, Hiroshima, a city famous for its shipyards and industry, blended with modern Japanese life and a landscape of canals and hills. Next, they’ll experience Minami, a district with a strong international influence, offering shooting games and betting. Finally, players arrive in Atami, Shizuoka, a more sophisticated area that includes airports and other modern conveniences.
I’m so hyped for this! Everything seems to be building towards a huge reveal in Kamurocho, Shinjuku. I’m really wondering if it’s going to connect to the Tojo Clan somehow. We’ll have to wait and see, but honestly, Stranger Than Heaven is looking like it’s going to be amazing!
