Missing the world of Stranger Things? Good news! The Duffer Brothers’ new supernatural show now has a confirmed release date.
A new mystery series called The Boroughs, executive produced by the duo, will premiere on Netflix on May 21st.
A group of retirees will team up to fight a terrifying alien invasion that’s threatening their peaceful retirement community, showing everyone they’re more capable than anyone imagined.
Initial images from the series showcase the ensemble cast of unique characters, featuring Alfred Molina as Sam, Geena Davis as Renee, Alfre Woodard as Judy, Denis O’Hare as Wally, Clarke Peters as Art, Bill Pullman as Jack, Carlos Miranda as Paz, Jena Malone as Claire, Seth Numrich as Blaine, and Alice Kremelberg as Anneliese.
Okay, so a lot of people are already thinking this new show feels a bit like Stranger Things, and honestly, I get it! Everyone’s really curious to see if the creators can pull off another huge hit like they did with that series. The pressure’s on, but I’m excited to find out!

The creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, recently shared that their new show, The Boroughs, features a group of relatable and endearing characters, much like those in Stranger Things, but who are a little older. They promise an adventure that will be both thrilling and emotionally resonant, with plenty of humor along the way.
Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews are the creators and showrunners of the eight-episode series. They told Tudum they always envisioned ‘The Boroughs’ as a show that would be frightening, intriguing, thrilling, and emotionally resonant.

The biggest hurdle was building a world where so many different feelings could exist together. That’s what made collaborating with the Duffer Brothers so enjoyable—they’re incredibly skilled at mixing emotional moments with scary ones.
Even after finishing Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers are staying busy with Netflix. They’re executive producing a new thriller called Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, and a Stranger Things spin-off, Tales from ’85, is set to release in April.
The Boroughs will arrive on Netflix on 21 May 2026.
