As a huge fan, I was a little disappointed with how Stranger Things ended, and it seems like Netflix is aware of the criticism. While the final season has aired, the story isn’t truly over! Apparently, Eleven will be back in 2026, and it sounds like this return will address one of the biggest complaints people had about the finale. Honestly, the reception to the last season wasn’t great – it only has a 53% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is pretty low for a show we all love.
The latest season of this popular Netflix show has received surprisingly negative reviews, especially considering the 89% audience approval of season four. Many viewers disliked how the character Eleven was portrayed and what happened to her. However, a planned return to the story for Eleven in 2026 could address some of those concerns and improve how her role in the most recent season is perceived.
Eleven’s April 2026 Return Does What Season 5 Mostly Didn’t
Although Steve Harrington, played by Joe Keery, has become incredibly popular with fans, Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven remains the central figure of Stranger Things. The series initially focused on Eleven as a child, and her extraordinary abilities quickly became the show’s main focus – she was both the key to fighting the monsters from the Upside Down and a target because of her powers.
As a longtime viewer, I was really disappointed with Eleven’s arc in the final season of Stranger Things. For a character who’s always been the powerhouse, it felt like her abilities were drastically diminished. We spent seasons watching her grow and master her powers, and then, facing Vecna, she barely seemed capable of anything! It was frustrating to see her struggle with even basic tasks – I remember a particularly jarring scene where she was straining to lift a simple metal barrier, nosebleed and all – while Will’s newfound powers took center stage. It felt like a real misstep, sidelining the character who’s always been at the heart of the show.
The new animated series, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, which premieres on Netflix April 23rd, will highlight Eleven’s abilities in a hopeful way after she took a backseat in the main storyline. The trailer reveals a dangerous new monster from the Upside Down that only Eleven can defeat. It also shows her rescuing Mike from a deadly situation – a moment that originally happened with Will in the fifth season of Stranger Things.
How Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 Could Be One Of Eleven’s Best Seasons
The first season of Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 has the potential to be one of the strongest seasons yet for the character Eleven. Although Millie Bobby Brown isn’t voicing the role this time, viewers will see El actively working with her friends to unravel a mystery that wasn’t part of the main Stranger Things storyline.
This new installment of Stranger Things offers exciting character dynamics we haven’t seen explored much before, such as Eleven working alongside Lucas and Dustin. The snowy setting provides a visually interesting change of pace for Hawkins. Importantly, Eleven’s abilities are truly showcased, solidifying her role as the central character and making this content essential viewing for fans.
