Just before the final episodes are released, Ross Duffer, one of the creators of Stranger Things, explained the best way to watch them. He recently shared some advice to make sure viewers have the ideal experience.
In an Instagram video, Duffer explains how to disable common TV settings that automatically enhance picture quality. These settings often unintentionally worsen the viewing experience for anything other than sports.
In his public service announcement, Duffer advises people to disable features like Dynamic Contrast, Super Resolution, Edge Enhancer, and Color Filters on their TVs. He particularly calls out the TruMotion or SmoothMotion setting as the biggest problem, explaining that these kinds of settings create an unnatural “soap opera effect” that most viewers will want to avoid.
Most modern TVs include picture settings designed for accuracy, often labeled ‘expert’ or something similar, like ‘DOLBY Vision Movie Dark.’ These settings help minimize unwanted image processing, though it’s still good to confirm the adjustments. Importantly, avoid any picture mode labeled ‘vivid,’ as it usually activates the most aggressive and inaccurate processing, ruining the colors and deviating from the director’s original vision.
The first four episodes of Stranger Things Season 5 were released in November. This fifth and final season focuses on the continuing struggle against Vecna, who is close to merging our world with the terrifying dimension known as the Upside Down.
On December 25th, three new episodes will be released, packed with surprising twists that change how we understand the whole story. Critics are loving Season 5, giving it an 83% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 122 reviews. However, audiences haven’t been as enthusiastic, with a current “Popcornmeter” score of just 56% from over 5,000 viewer ratings.
I’ve been reading about what it was like for the cast filming the last season, and it sounds incredibly emotional. Noah Schnapp described it as ‘very bittersweet,’ which really hits home. He shared that the last day of shooting was tough for everyone, but even before that, he was already writing goodbye notes and thank you letters to his co-stars, just reflecting on all the amazing memories they’d shared. It’s so touching to hear how much they all mean to each other!
What Comes After Stranger Things?
Now that Stranger Things has concluded, the Duffer Brothers are starting a new chapter with Paramount Pictures. In a statement released in August, they expressed their excitement about joining the Paramount team and working again with Cindy Holland and Matt Thunell – two executives who championed their initial Stranger Things script back in 2015. They highlighted that both Holland and Thunell took a risk on them early on, and they’re eager to collaborate on future projects together.
Even though the creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, are moving on, they’ve provided Netflix with enough material to expand the show’s world through spinoffs. Netflix is also considering a live-action anthology series that would explore stories outside of the town of Hawkins, Indiana.
The final episode of Stranger Things premieres on Netflix on December 31.
